The motivation for this isn\u2019t just about fairness \u2013 starting to redress imbalances \u2013 but also because research shows that having a workforce that reflects the broader population <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mckinsey.com\/business-functions\/people-and-organizational-performance\/our-insights\/why-diversity-matters\">makes sound financial sense<\/a>. <\/p>\n<blockquote >\n<p>Companies in the top quartile for gender or racial and ethnic diversity are more likely to have financial returns above their national industry medians. Companies in the bottom quartile in these dimensions are statistically less likely to achieve above-average returns. And diversity is probably a competitive differentiator that shifts market share toward more diverse companies over time.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>That includes financial gains thorough <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inc.com\/hrci\/diversity-is-more-than-common-sense-it-makes-financial-sense.html\">having women in leadership roles<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 >Deloitte women in tech report<\/h2>\n<p>Management consultancy Deloitte has published <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www2.deloitte.com\/us\/en\/insights\/industry\/technology\/women-tech-leadership.html\">a new report<\/a> that shows that when it comes to female representation, tech giants are making progress \u2013 and the fastest growth was women in leadership roles. This includes environmental lead Lisa Jackson, pictured above. Apple\u2019s board of directors has three women out of nine members, equating to 33%.<\/p>\n<p>More broadly, Apple\u2019s latest diversity report, published last month, shows that the company is also ahead of the pack when it comes to its workforce as a whole.<\/p>\n<blockquote >\n<p>The diversity report shows that in 2014, Apple\u2019s workforce was made up of 70% males and 30% females. Since then, the numbers have ticked a bit, with 65.2% male employees and 34.8% female employees in 2021.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The data also shows Apple\u2019s leadership saw an 87% increase in female employees across the world.\u00a0Overall, its female workforce increased 89%. The company is also increasing its female staff working in R&amp;D, with 34% of its [broader] leadership roles fulfilled by women.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Apple hired more Black and Hispanic\/Latinx employees than ever before in 2021. A combined 25% of Apple\u2019s leadership roles in the US were filled by Black and Hispanic\/Latinx candidates last year.
