Edge is Motorola’s premiere series and so far we’ve seen several models, including the Edge 30 Pro (aka Edge Plus 2022 in the US). This phone will soon be surpassed by the model code named “Frontier”, which will likely be marketed as the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra globally and X30 Pro in China (following the X30). The company’s roadmap includes at least three more devices, according to leaked info.
The Edge 30 Ultra will feature a 200 MP main camera, likely Samsung’s ISOCELL HP1. This may be the highest resolution smartphone camera at launch and it will have OIS to boot. Additional cameras include a 50 MP ultra wide and a 12 MP telephoto (2x) cameras, plus a 60 MP selfie cam.
Motorola Edge 30 Ultra (“Frontier”)
That’s all according to rumors, anyway. The phone is also said to be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ chipset, the rumored TSMC version of Qualcomm’s top chip. It will be paired with 8/12 GB of LPDDR RAM and 128/256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The 6.67” P-OLED display should offer 144 Hz refresh rate, while the 4,500 mAh battery is said to support the 125W charger that was teased by a Motorola executive.
Then there’s the Motorola Edge 30 (“Dubai”). We’ve seen this one run Geekbench with a Snapdragon 778G+ chipset. This model will also offer a 144 Hz P-OLED display (6.55”, FHD+), along with a 50 MP main camera, 50 MP ultra wide and a 2 MP depth sensor, plus a 32 MP shooter on the front. The battery will have 4,020 mAh capacity, there’s no word on charging yet.
Later on, a Dubai+ model will be revealed (market name unknown). This one is said to feature a new MediaTek Dimensity MT6879, which is yet to be announced. It will pack two Cortex-A78 cores (2.6 GHz) and six A55 (2.0 GHz), plus a yet to be seen Mali-G79. This sounds like it will slot in below the rumored Dimensity 7000. The phone will reportedly support a stylus (like the Edge 30 Pro) and will have a 5,000 mAh battery. The leaks haven’t filled in details like screen size or charge speed yet.
A fourth model, likely the Motorola Edge 30 Lite (“Miami”), will bring up the rear. This one will be the smallest with a 6.28” P-OLED display (FHD+, 120 Hz) and a 4,020 mAh battery. It will be super slim, allegedly, measuring less than 7 mm thick. The Lite will be powered by a Snapdragon 695 (with 6/8 LPDDR4x RAM, 128/256 GB storage). As for cameras, it will have a 64+13 MP dual setup on the back and a single 13 MP camera on the front.
Motorola is now the third largest maker in the US after LG pulled out of the market. The brand also has an established presence in Europe and South America too, so we expect to see the new Edge models in those markets. Versions of them will probably appear in China as well, tough there may be slight differences in the specs.
