Almost a year ago, Google made some notable steps toward limiting the spread of fake news. The company introduced a feature that warns people of unreliable search results. Now, the search giant has added some information literacy tips. This is only available in the US at this time.
Google is now trying to teach users how to verify their facts, particularly if it has identified the topic as being evolving and well-researched. It displays suggestions such as searching the author’s name to see if he or she is a legitimate source of information.
The News app will also label Top Stories to promote news sources that are often cited by other publications or if the piece is an interview, an official press release, original content, investigative articles, etc.
