Oppo Find X5 in for review

Oppo Find X5 in for review

Oppo introduced its new flagship series Find X5 last month. We have the Pro model of the range in review, but we now have the vanilla phone. It is a more affordable alternative to the Find X5 Pro, but it shares many of its standout features. After our initial contact, here’s what we found most impressive about the phone.

Oppo Find X5 in for review

The Oppo Find X5 is a cool looking phone, and while we cannot call it small or compact, it is a lot easier to handle than the Find X5 Pro. The display diagonal is 6. 55″ with FullHD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate and it looks great.

Unlike the Pro that has the latest Qualcomm chipset the Find X5 has the Snapdragon 888 from last year – the one that powers the Find X3 Pro. However, it does have the new MariSilicon X NPU, that should significantly boost the image quality of its cameras.

The primary camera has the same 50MP 1/1. 56″ sensor as the X5 Pro, but has a slightly slower F/1. 8 lens and drops the sensor-shift stabilization though OIS is still present.

We do love the 80W fast charging in the Find X5, and since the battery is 4,800 mAh, we expect some super-quick speeds from 0 to 100%. There’s also 30W wireless charging and 10W reverse charging support.

The best thing about the Oppo Find X5 is that it will be available globally, unlike the Find X3. Once the review is done we’ll let you know if the EUR999 asking price makes for a great deal or if you are better off spending your money elsewhere.

Motorola Moto G 5G (2022) specs and renders leak

Motorola Moto G 5G (2022) specs and renders leak

Last November, we saw a render of a Motorola smartphone codenamed “Austin,” having a centered punch hole display and a triple camera system on the rear headlined by a 50MP camera. Today, we are looking at a set of new renders which not only corroborate Austin’s design but also give us our best look yet at it.

These images come courtesy of leakster OnLeaks, who collaborated with Prepp.in and revealed that the marketing name of Motorola Austin is Moto G 5G (2022).

The source also said that the Motorola Moto G 5G (2022) has model code XT2213, and its screen measures 6. 6″ diagonally. The smartphone is powered by the Snapdragon 750G SoC and will run Android 11 out of the box, which is a bummer since Android 12 has been around for months now and Google has already dropped a couple of developer previews of Android 13.

The Moto G 5G (2022) has a volume rocker on the right-side frame, joined by a power button that doubles as a fingerprint scanner. At the bottom is the USB-C port, flanked by a speaker, microphone, and a 3. 5mm headphone jack.

The source claims that the Moto G 5G (2022) is 9. 3mm thick (10. 7mm with the camera bump) and is expected to come with 4GB RAM, 128GB storage (expandable up to 512GB), and a 5,000 mAh battery.

The 50MP primary camera on the back will be joined by 8MP and 2MP cameras, with the former likely being an ultrawide unit and the latter a macro/depth unit. However, do note that these specs aren’t final or confirmed.

OnePlus to launch Y1s Pro 4K TV in India alongside OnePlus 10 Pro

OnePlus to launch Y1s Pro 4K TV in India alongside OnePlus 10 Pro

OnePlus launched the Nord CE 2 5G back in January and also debuted the TV Y1S and TV Y1S Edge alongside it in India. We already know that the OnePlus 10 Pro, also announced in January for the Chinese market should be coming to global markets, including India by the end of March. Rumors are mounting that the TV Y1s Pro will be unveiled at the same event, as well as potentially a new pair of Bullets Wireless Z2 earbuds.

OnePlus to launch Y1s Pro 4K TV in India alongside OnePlus 10 Pro

OnePlus has even started teasing the upcoming event on its socials, but we don’t have an exact date quite yet. 91mobile recently published an exclusive leak on the OnePlus TV Y1S Pro, including most of its specs. As the name suggests, it will be a more premium TV set compared to the TV Y1S and TV Y1S Edge. Its spotlight attribute being a 4K (3840 x 2160 pixel) panel – an upgrade from the HD and FullHD panels of its siblings. The source claims that, at least initially, the Y1S Pro will only be offered in a single 43-inch size.

The leaked product picture shows a similar design with narrow top and side bezels, and a thick bottom bezel featuring a OnePlus logo. It appears that the remote control has shortcut buttons for Netflix and Disney+ Hotstar as well as Prime Video, Google Assistant, and OnePlus. Its controls rest are fairly standard. A d-dab has a home, volume, up, and down buttons, as well as what appears to be a menu or input select button.

OnePlus to launch Y1s Pro 4K TV in India alongside OnePlus 10 Pro

Clearly, the OnePlus TV Y1S Pro is a smart tv. Oddly, according to the source, it will run Android TV 10 instead of the Android TV 11 that the TV Y1S and Y1S Edge have. Even so, it should have support for Google Chromecast, Miracast and OnePlus Connect 2.0. You can also use the Google Assistant or Alexa. These remotes may have a microphone built in. Alleged specs also include 2GB of Ram and 8GB of internal storage. A stereo 24W speaker setup, with Dolby Audio and Dolby Atmos to external soundbar and speakers. Connectivity includes three HDMI inputs (likely 1. 4), two USB ports and dual-band Wi-Fi.

No details on pricing or availability are available yet.

The update has version number 13.0. 1.0.SJUINXM and requires a download of 3.1GB. It comes with the February 2022 Android security patch and allows apps to be opened as floating windows from the sidebar. The new firmware also enhances the accessibility support for the Phone, Clock, and Weather apps.

However, the source claims that the MIUI 13 update is currently only seeding to X3 Pro units enrolled in the Mi Pilot program, so if you are not a part of it, you’ll have to wait for Poco to release the update for everyone.

iOS 15. 4 update reportedly causing battery drain for some users

iOS 15. 4 update reportedly causing battery drain for some users

Earlier this week, Apple started rolling out iOS 15. 4, alongside iPadOS 15. 4, watchOS 8. 5, macOS Monterey 12. 3, tvOS 15. 4, and HomePod Software 15.4. You can read more about the update here, but its biggest spotlight feature is the ability to unlock your phone using Face ID with a mask on. A nice gesture for users who don’t own an Apple Watch – iOS 14. 5 from last year originally introduced Face ID with a mask for iPhone users with an Apple Watch. The new Face ID only works on the iPhone 13 and iPhone 12 generation, though and is slower and less secure. Let’s just call this a win.

iOS 15.4 update reportedly causing battery drain for some users

Limited feature availability might be the least of iOS 15. 4’s issues as a growing number of people are reporting bad battery life after the OTA. Things like an iPhone 13 Pro Max only lasting for half a day. Or an older iPhone 11 dropping 80% battery charge in 24 hours with two hours of screen on time. And other similar reports.

Of course, the issue is far from universal, and some temporary battery woes are sometimes expected after an update. And iOS 15. 4 might not look like a very major one, but apparently, it includes a whopping 39 vulnerability fixes. Still, these battery drain figures seem a bit high. Some users have theorized that Apple has started using the max 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate a lot more frequently. It sounds plausible, but it can’t be the full explanation since only the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max have ProMotion, and these are not the only affected models. Here’s hoping the issues are resolved soon.

Unfortunate battery troubles aside, iOS 15. 4 does also include over 100 new emoji from the Emoji 14.0 set, a new voice option for Siri along with the ability to provide time and date information offline, EU Digital COVID Certificate support in vaccine cards in Apple Wallet, improvements to Safari web page translations with support for Italian and Chinese, Podcasts app improvements, and more.

Moto G30 is the latest device to receive an update to Android 12

Moto G30 is the latest device to receive an update to Android 12

Motorola may not have been quick to commence its updates to Android 12, but it sure plans to update a lot of phones – as announced all the way back in December. We’ve moved on to a better model today after the ball started rolling with a phone starting at 2020, last month.

That is the Moto G30, released almost exactly one year ago. This device is now in the process of receiving its update to Android 12, and the rollout has started in Brazil, which is one of Motorola’s most important markets.

Moto G30 is the latest device to receive an update to Android 12

G30 users over there have reported getting the update notification left and right. It’s a 1. 09 GB download, the new software, and it’s identified as version S0RCS32.41-10-9-2. It’s currently arriving on the dual-SIM version of the Brazilian Moto G30, the one with model number XT2129-1-DS. Aside from all the goodies that Android 12 packs, this one also comes with the February 2022 security patches. Although it’s a month late, this smartphone is still a good choice for mid-range smartphones.

Now that the update is out in one market, we’re hoping that in the next few days (or weeks, tops) it will make its way to all of the countries where the Moto G30 is sold.

Apple says your next computer isn’t a computer in TV ad for the new iPad Air

Apple says your next computer isn’t a computer in TV ad for the new iPad Air

Quick: what is a computer? Is a tablet a computer? Or is a tablet just… a tablet? These are the important questions Apple is tackling in its latest TV ad for its latest tablet: the new iPad Air, officially unveiled at the company’s spring event last week.

We’re only half joking here, by the way. The ad doesn’t actually tackle those questions, but (spoiler alert!) it does end with the “Your next computer is not a computer” message. But isn’t it, though?

Anyway, looks like the company still clings to some remnants of the “post-PC” buzzword (buzzphrase?) from back in the day. And the point of the rest of the ad seems to be quite obvious: in a world in which teenagers don’t have phones (LOL!), a tablet can do everything you want it to. And that tablet is the new iPad Air, available now starting at $599.

Samsung claims that yields from its 5 nm foundries are improving

Samsung claims that yields from its 5 nm foundries are improving

At the recent shareholders meeting the CEO of the Samsung Devices Solutions division Kyehyun Kyung reported that the company’s foundries are improving the yield rates for advanced process nodes.

The executive explained that each new node brings higher complexity, so improving the yield rates requires time, but didn’t offer any specific details.

The company didn’t officially confirm it, but the yield rate for the 5 nm node, the one used for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, is reportedly only 35%. This makes Qualcomm’s flagship chipset expensive and difficult to produce. Samsung’s own Exynos 2100 is fabbed in the same foundry.

Samsung's path to 5 nm
Samsung's path to 5 nm

Samsung’s path to 5 nm

Samsung is also reportedly lagging behind TSMC in sub-5 nm yield rates. This may cause Qualcomm to switch foundries for 3 nm chips. Apple has probably already reserved a significant portion of TSMC’s 3 nm capacity for future Apple A and M chipsets and it’s not the only one (e.g. AMD is working on 3 nm Zen CPUs).

There is talk that the switch may happen as soon as this year – reliable leaksters are reporting that Qualcomm will shift part of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 production to TSMC later this year (and that the new chips will be marketed under the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ name).
