NeuroLogica Announces FDA 510(k) Clearance for Photon Counting Computed Tomography Using OmniTom Elite

NeuroLogica Announces FDA 510(k) Clearance for Photon Counting Computed Tomography Using OmniTom Elite – Samsung Global Newsroom

NeuroLogica’s OmniTom Elite has received 510(k) clearance for the addition of Photon Counting Detector (PCD) technology.

The world of medical imaging is no longer just black & white. NeuroLogica Corp, a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics, announced today its state-of-the-art OmniTom Elite has received 510(k) clearance for the addition of Photon Counting Detector (PCD) technology. NeuroLogica delivers the first FDA 510(k) cleared, single-source photon counting computed tomography (CT) scanner with single detector. OmniTom Elite can produce spectral CT images with multiple energy levels using PCD.

Photon counting is a next-generation CT technology that sorts the different energies of X-rays after they have passed through the scan field. A PCD and X-ray sources can be used to generate multiple sets of CT data at once. Each set has a configurable threshold energy, so there is no crosstalk between the images. PCD provides the ability to capture CT data in multiple energy bands leading to potentially more accurate visualization and segmentation of bone, blood clots, plaque, hemorrhage and intracranial tumors. There is also potential with PCD to lower the dose requirements, and fundamentally change the use of injected contrast.

“NeuroLogica is driven by innovation. Since the advent of the world’s first multi-slice mobile CT in 2004, we have always known that point-of-care imaging can improve patient outcomes and increase the likelihood of a better quality of life after a traumatic event,” said David Webster, Chief Operating Officer of NeuroLogica. We are excited to offer PCD technology on the OmniTom Elite platform. This will allow us to improve the diagnosis of CT at the bedside .”

.

The OmniTom Elite has the ability to provide versatile, real-time mobile imaging to administer point-of-care CT to critical patients without the need to transport them to a separate imaging department. This mobile unit can reduce the time required to diagnose these patients and start treatment.

“Availability of photon-counting detector technology on a mobile head CT platform is a significant advance in the development of CT,” said Rajiv Gupta, PhD, MD, Neuroradiology Division Chief of Massachusetts General Hospital and Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School. “This advance heralds a new era of CT applications in stroke, trauma, ICU and intra-op settings.” MGH is collaborating with NeuroLogica and will pilot test the OmniTom Elite with PCD to monitor post-trauma and post-surgical patients.

Upgrading capabilities were top of mind when designing OmniTom Elite mobile CT scanners. In the near term, all current OmniTom users will have the opportunity to upgrade their scanners with this technology. Meanwhile, a limited number of premier research partners will aid in developing the full potential of OmniTom Elite with PCD.

Neurologica’s OmniTom Elite, and the entire mobile CT product line are manufactured in Danvers, MA, USA.

This IWD’22, Samsung Employees From Around the World Share Their Hopes for a More Sustainable Tomorrow

This IWD’22, Samsung Employees From Around the World Share Their Hopes for a More Sustainable Tomorrow – Samsung Global Newsroom

March 8 marks International Women’s Day (IWD), a day designated by the United Nations to celebrate and acknowledge the achievements of women across all facets of society, from culture to politics to business. The #BreakTheBias theme for this year’s IWD is a reminder of the need to work towards a better future without discrimination and stereotyping.

In order to highlight this important day in the global calendar, Samsung Newsroom sat down with three female employees to hear their experiences of fighting the bias, achieving their career goals and helping others to do the same.

Vice president of Mobile eXperience Business (MX), Samsung Electronics. Jaeyeon Jung leads the SmartThings team and works tirelessly to provide the best experience for SmartThings users all over the globe. He also helps junior colleagues to grow.

“It’s a sad fact that the ratio of male colleagues to female colleagues decreases as more responsibility is given,” Jung stated. Jung said, “But, just like my bosses assessed me without prejudice, and encouraged me take on new challenges,” Jung added.

Sumedha Bakhshi is the Diversity and Inclusion (D&I), Lead at Samsung SWA and chairperson of SIEL-S D&I Council. She believes each individual has unique talents, passions and beliefs. Bakhshi, who has faced stereotypes regarding the female role in her country’s domestic society throughout her career, was able to overcome them and continue to advance her career.

“When I tried to apply for Quality Leader in one of my past roles, there was a lot of resistance because it appeared that women weren’t good at numbers and analytics. This prejudice was overcome by passion, effort and my own capabilities, which resulted in me scoring higher than other candidates, landing the job. It’s great to work with a group that appreciates your individual strengths at Samsung. In all my projects, I had the support and guidance of the leadership. My recent promotion was possible only because my abilities were evaluated by the company. Everyone should be given a fair opportunity without discrimination or prejudice.”

Svetlana Chervonnykh manages Soft Skill Development for Samsung partners at Samsung MENA CS, and is steadfast in the belief that an accomplished woman is a happier and a stronger woman. Not only does Chervonnykh have ambitions for her current role in changing people’s perceptions of services, she also dreams of opening a healing retreat for women in order to nurture their inner and outer health.

“I believe that women have secret superpowers thanks to their natural femininity and softness, something that is actually incredibly useful in work environments,” said Chervonnykh. My immediate boss, a female Samsung MENA CS leader, is my only example. Among those I work with, regardless of gender, I find everyone very cooperative in fostering a comfortable environment in which to work.”

Breaking the Bias by Fostering Support for All

By fostering a culture that embraces all kinds of diverse talents, Samsung supports all of its members to feel a sense of belonging and to realize their potential based on equal opportunity. Samsung organizes many events every year to celebrate this global community of inclusion, respect and diversity.

As a celebration of this year’s IWD, Samsung has organized a global campaign amongst its employees to submit photos of them making the IWD’22 official pose — using the arms to form the letter ‘X’ — in order to bring together Samsung employees from all over the world virtually through a collage of solidarity. The company also prepared an IWD video in which female employees of Samsung go about their daily lives, sharing their support for IWD.

In commemoration of this year’s International Women’s Day, Samsung has launched a campaign to highlight the importance of creating a fair world without prejudices, big or small, in every person’s position.

Furthermore, on March 8, the company is hosting regional lunch webinars beginning with Korea and continuing on in a relay format in Southeast Asia, Southwest Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and North America, with staggered starting times to align with the different time zones. The webinars will be held on March 728 and feature expert speakers who share their knowledge and interact with employees about the subject of fighting prejudice.

A Better World, Without Prejudice

As well as organizing these special events to commemorate IWD, Samsung continues to work year-round to end discrimination in the workplace and foster an environment where all people can thrive regardless of such factors as their gender.

“We will continue to push Samsung to help our female employees find roles that are right for them and to assist with their career goals,” stated Jong-Hee Han (Vice Chairman, CEO, Samsung Electronics’ DX Division). We will provide more support to our female future leaders by offering a variety of mentoring and networking opportunities .

Kyehyun Kyung was also the CEO and President for Samsung Electronics’ DS Division. He shared a message of support to employees. We want to make sure that every employee feels connected and can reach their potential. This is why we embrace diversity and inclusion .

Alex Proba Brings Nature Inside the Home in the Latest Samsung Bespoke Refrigerator Collaboration

Alex Proba Brings Nature Inside the Home in the Latest Samsung Bespoke Refrigerator Collaboration – Samsung Global Newsroom

Samsung Electronics’ Bespoke line of home appliances offers products that reflect the evolving lifestyle of consumers worldwide, marrying Samsung’s advanced technologies with customizable aesthetics. Ingrained into the design principle of Bespoke is the creative exploration of new ideas that inspire joy and innovation, which is why Samsung is continually partnering with artists to offer fresh new concepts that inspire self-expression and everyday creativity with Bespoke products.

This year, Samsung has added limited-edition panel art in collaboration with artist Alex Proba to its collection of exclusive Bespoke designs. The panels are on display at Samsung 837 in New York and the flagship Samsung Electronics store in Seoul, and limited editions are available for purchase in the U.S.

Adding New Dimensions to the Bespoke Experience

Through past collaborations with artists Thibaud Herem, Andy Rementer and Danish lifestyle brand HAY, Samsung’s Bespoke appliances were transformed into statement pieces as these artists explored the limits of Bespoke’s customizability. French illustrator Herem took inspiration from European architecture, while U.S. pop artist Rementer highlighted diversity with colorful portraits of communities, and HAY developed custom-blends of colors inspired by natural food ingredients.

“Our Bespoke collaborations serve as a gateway for exploring aspirational design, transforming standard home appliances into art,” said MH Bu, Head of Design Team, Digital Appliances, Samsung Electronics. It’s exciting to partner with artists and see their creative contributions to the Bespoke range. This can help reimagine homes around the globe .”

.

Finding Inspiration in Everyday Moments

Proba is the founder of Brooklyn and Portland-based design studio StudioPROBA. She describes the inspiration for her art as coming from shapes and colors that evoke positive memories and happiness. The artist has worked with hundreds of global brands on several art pieces including graphic, environmental and furniture design, as well as artwork.

Proba’s partnership with Samsung began when she was invited to design a room in Samsung’s product experience space, Samsung 837. Located in New York’s iconic Meatpacking district, Samsung 837 is a showroom where visitors can enjoy interactive experiences including virtual reality exhibitions, music performances and design installations such as the Bespoke My Home stages where Proba’s projects were first displayed.

Divided into three arrangements Kitchen, Lounge and Studio the spaces are designed by local artists reflecting their stylistic visions. Aliza Simons, a Brooklyn-based ceramics artist who designed the kitchen, used earth tones and mixed ceramics. Furniture designer, Stephen Burks arranged the lounge space creating a cozy and relaxing vibe by combining his unique style with Bespoke’s customizable designs. And Proba designed The Studio to reflect her own decor melding joyful colors and abstract shapes, and even including some of her personal belongings into the display.

Bringing Nature Inside via a New Medium

Thanks to this latest collaboration project, Proba’s exclusive designs for the Bespoke 4-Door Flex refrigerator are now available for consumer homes. Proba said, “My work explores joy through colorful patterns and shapes that are inspired by nature.” “Designing for Samsung’s Bespoke refrigerator was a new adventure for me, and a way for my art to transcend traditional mediums bringing vibrant color with abstract patterns to unexpected places.”

Through their partnership with Proba, Samsung is offering consumers an exclusive motif inspired by the beauty of the world outside. To learn more about Proba’s Bespoke 4-Door Flex refrigerators and to make reservations, follow this link.

vivo X Fold arrives with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, flagship cameras

The vivo X Fold has arrived to join the rapidly growing Chinese folding market.

There are no surprises as we have been well-conditioned to anticipate the many leaks that occurred over the week leading up to the event. The vivo X Fold has a 6. 53-inch outer AMOLED display and a folding 8. 03-inch 1800x2200px LTPO3 inner AMOLED E5 display. Both operate at up to 120Hz and are HDR10+ ready, but the inner display is an LTPO3 and can slow down to as low as 1Hz.

The folding display uses SCHOTT UTG (ultra-tough glass), a competitor to Samsung’s ultra-thin glass. The display has Display Mate’s A+ recommendation. There are two in-display fingerprint scanners on the vivo X Fold. Both are ultrasonic scanners, not optical ones.

This hinge is aircraft-grade and floating wing hinge. It allows the vivo X Fold to close flat, and to stay open at an angle between 60 and 120 degrees.

Powering the vivo X Fold is a flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip with 12GB of RAM. There’s a 4,600mAh battery that can recharge rapidly. You get 66W through the cable – that tops up the battery in 37 minutes. The vivo X Fold can also wirelessly charge at up to 50W and reverse wirelessly charge at 10W at the same time.

You can have two apps running side by side on the larger canvas of the inner display. You can run floating windows above for a richer multitasking experience. Even if you prefer to be at home, that doesn’t mean your options are limited. Stream a movie with your family in the living room, and then take The Freestyle with you when you want to watch something in your bedroom. Designed for portability, The Freestyle automatically adjusts the level, focus and keystone as soon as you touch the power button for a quick and hassle-free setup.

The Freestyle also freely rotates up to 180 degrees, allowing you to find the perfect position without moving the projector. Samsung Honored for Continued Sustainability Leadership by the U.S. EPA

Samsung Honored for Continued Sustainability Leadership by the U.S. EPA – Samsung Global Newsroom

Received Two Accolades in Recognition of Recycling and Eco-Product Innovations

In recognition of its continued environmental leadership and innovation, Samsung Electronics America today received two awards from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Samsung’s honors include a Gold Tier Award, the EPA’s highest award for the responsible recycling of electronic waste (e-waste) and a Sustained Excellence Award, a new EPA accolade, recognizing our legacy of Sustainable Materials Management (SMM) product innovation, including our groundbreaking SolarCell Remote for Samsung TVs.

The EPA’s SMM Electronics Challenge program honors brands that have employed innovative strategies to use materials in a more environmentally responsible way throughout their lifecycle. Samsung’s eco-innovation in materials and responsible recycling program have been recognized each year by the EPA and our consumer recycling programs have received the highest SMM award level since the SMM Program’s inception in 2014. The 2021 SMM Electronics Challenge Award winners were recognized at a virtual award ceremony held today.

“We at Samsung are making sustainability the driving force behind our bold innovations, and the EPA has recognized that effort,” stated Mark Newton, Head, Corporate Sustainability, Samsung Electronics America. As part of the transition to a circular economy, our engineers and designers continue to find meaningful ways for us as a company and society reduce our waste. When consumers buy a Samsung product, we want them to feel confident that they’re not only experiencing our cutting-edge technology and eco-innovation advances, but we’re also making it easy for them to repair, refurbish and recycle their products as well.”

“It will take us all working together to create a sustainable future. I salute the organizations that were recognized for their outstanding leadership in electronic recycling efforts ,” said Michael S. Regan, EPA Administrator. “Electronics are a global economic driver with supply chains that reach around the world and products that play a big role in our daily lives. Because of these organizations’ efforts, we’re able to recover and recycle valuable resources like precious metals, critical minerals, plastics and glass.”

The eighth consecutive year Samsung won the EPA SMM Gold Tier Award to recognize our outstanding performance in e waste collection across the United States. We collect and recycle an average of 100 million pounds of e-waste per year in the United States, the greenhouse gas (GHG) equivalent of over two million trees sequestering carbon for ten years. Since 2008, we’ve responsibly recycled more than a billion pounds of electronics, diverting them from U.S. landfills and recovering reusable materials. And Samsung has an aggressive goal to incorporate 500,000 tons of recycled plastics into our products globally by 2030.

In addition to our legacy of SMM innovations over the years, the EPA Sustained Excellence Award recognizes Samsung’s SolarCell Remote, which was introduced in early 2021 and developed to reduce battery waste and to help close the loop on plastic waste. This innovation — which is currently available with Samsung 4K and 8K QLED (Neo, Q80A, Q70A, Q60A) and MicroLED televisions — is projected to eliminate the disposal of 99 million AA batteries and avoid 5,840 tons of GHG over the course of seven years of usage. * Beyond reducing battery waste, Samsung is cutting down on plastic waste as the remote contains 24% upcycled Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and Polycarbonate (PC).

What’s more is that, in January 2022, Samsung unveiled advancements on the second generation of its SolarCell Remote, which can now draw electricity from radio frequencies in devices like Wi-Fi routers. The remote has also been included in more Samsung products, such as new Samsung TVs and home appliances – all with the aim of eliminating the disposal of more than 200 million AA batteries from landfills.

[Design Story] Behind the Design of the Galaxy Tab S8 – Samsung Global Newsroom

The innovative legacy the Galaxy line has left behind isn’t limited to its phones. It applies equally to other Samsung Electronics products. While maintaining the characteristics of each device, be it smartphone, tablet, or laptop, the Galaxy design refines each product into a simple form. The design philosophy combines the best of both modern technology and current trends to create a uniform identity.

The new Galaxy Tab S8 series carries on this legacy. The Galaxy Tab S series continues this tradition with optimized performance and a refined design.

An Iconic Identity

The Galaxy Tab series evolved over time, with core user experiences being added to reflect user changing needs. The Galaxy Tab S8 series is a key part of the definitive Galaxy legacy and identity, and consistently reflects the new and improved experiences it provides to users through its design.

The S Pen, a key part of the Galaxy Tab S series experience, bestows a one-of-a-kind identity to the Galaxy Tab S8 series while providing flexible and efficient usability, and has always been included in the box alongside a Galaxy Tab S series device since its first iteration to accompany the user from the beginning. The Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra and S8+ both come with a new and improved S Pen that uses a prediction algorithm for ultra-low latency1 — delivering an incredible writing experience that mimics gliding a pen across paper. The S Pen charging track on the back of the Tab S8 ensures gentle and firm use by means of a magnet, and the camera hole, S Pen and the Samsung Electronics logo all align smoothly on the back of the device in a linear layout to provide a sense of unity.

The Galaxy Tab S8 series once again offers its users a selection of timeless and harmonious colors. Three colors are available to the series’ users: premium Graphite and Silver hues and a trendy and calming shade of Pink Gold. The matte surface of the tablet, trimmed to match the reinforced metal material, blends luxuriously with the premium color, whichever swatch a user opts for.

Expanded Experiences

The Galaxy Tab S series provides users with an excellent viewing experience thanks to its large display. This experience has been further expanded with the Galaxy Tab S8 series. The screen comes in a super slim bezel that brings new depths of immersion, while the enlarged screen is simplified to help you navigate better.

The overall design of the Galaxy Tab S8 series comes together to provide a unified and concise user experience in a way that maintains familiarity by utilizing the same keyboard shortcuts as a PC does. The Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra’s expansive screen also makes it easy for a user to split the screen into multiple, resizable windows, so they can multitask without having to toggle between apps. 2

Additionally, the Note View Cover for the Galaxy Tab S8 and S8+ allows users to write directly with the S Pen on the transparent cover that mimics the pen-to-paper sensation.

The Protective Standing Cover for the Galaxy Tab S8 series features an air pocket and an internal shock-resistant structure to firmly protect the device, while its free-stop hinge allows users to freely adjust the standing angle.

Only the Essentials

The Galaxy Tab S8 series’ packaging focuses on just the essentials, carrying only the essence of the product and reflecting those values held dear to us today. It is easy to see the product’s key features, including its thickness, structure, S Pen, and color. This package is also the smallest in series. The packaging’s volume and weight have been reduced to conserve resources, and reduce energy consumption.
