Apple ups its iPhone 13 Pro series orders in light of increased demand

Apple ups its iPhone 13 Pro series orders in light of increased demand

The Elec reports that Apple has increased its order for the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max this quarter. And that’s mainly because the demand for the more expensive Pro series is getting higher than initially anticipated.

Apple ups its iPhone 13 Pro series orders in light of increased demand

In the first quarter of this year, Apple ordered just a million of the smaller iPhone 13 Pro while the Max was produced in 3.5 million units. Starting Q2 2022, however, the standard Pro sees a whopping increase to 8 million orders, whereas the Pro Max sees a bump to 6.5 million. That makes a 10 million increase over the last quarter. This is good news for Apple as the average selling price of the iPhone 13 family will increase and investors will be happy with the extra revenue.

The information is in line with other reports suggesting a 10% total increase in iPhone 13 shipments and that suppliers for Apple are seeing growing revenues.

Oppo announces the Oppo K10 5G and the K10 Pro in China

Oppo announces the Oppo K10 5G and the K10 Pro in China

Oppo released the vanilla K10 last month and is now introducing the upper-tier K10 5G and the K10 Pro. Both handsets just debuted in China and there’s no word on international availability yet.

Oppo K10 Pro

The Pro version of the phone is built around a 6. 62-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel with 120Hz refresh rate and is advertised to reach 800 nits and even 1,300 nits peak brightness in some scenarios like watching HDR content, for example. The display is protected by Gorilla Glass 5.

The handset is powered by the Snapdragon 888 from last year paired with either 8GB or 12GB RAM. The former option comes with 128GB and 256GB internal storage, while the latter is only available with 256GB.

Despite its powerful, flagship-grade hardware, the camera setup is somewhat basic. The main one is 50MP, f/1. 8 and OIS and it’s joined by the familiar 8MP, f/2. 2 ultrawide unit. The third camera on the back is 2MP used for macro shots, whereas the front houses a 16MP f/2. 4 shooter.

The whole system relies on a 5,000 mAh battery that can charge over the company’s 80W SuperVOOC protocol, capable of topping off the cell from flat in just 31 minutes.

Other notable features include Dolby Atmos-tuned stereo speakers and a flagship-grade X-axis haptic engine that offers a mechanical-like tactile feedback when typing on the keyboard. The sensation of mechanical clicks has been co-developed with Razer.

Oppo K10 5G

Of course, the K10 5G is a more affordable option, which in turn sits above the vanilla K10 introduced last month. The K10 5G swaps out the Snapdragon 888 SoC for the MediaTek-made Dimensity 8000 Max and offers the same memory options as the K10 Pro.

The display’s size is almost the same – 6. 59″ but settles for an LCD screen instead of OLED. Refresh rate is still 120Hz and the advertised maximum brightness is 600 nits. Additionally, the panel is protected by Panda Glass and not Gorilla Glass.

The camera setup on the back consists of a 64MP f/1. 8 main unit, the same 8MP f/2. 2 ultrawide camera and the usual 2MP macro snapper. The front copies the 16MP selfie from the Pro but opens up the aperture to f/2.1.

The same 5,000 mAh cell powers it all with support for 67W SuperVOOC fast charging. Interestingly enough, the K10 5G also boasts Dolby Atmos-tuned stereo speakers and the X-axis haptic motor tuned by Razer.

The two handsets are offered in Black and Blue colors, but they are slightly different from one another. The standard K10 5G starts at CNY 1,999 (~$310), while the Pro option sells for CNY 2,499 (~$385)

Samsung Is Elected to the Technical Oversight Committee of the O-RAN Open Source Project

Samsung Is Elected to the Technical Oversight Committee of the O-RAN Open Source Project – Samsung Global Newsroom

In a recent meeting online, Samsung Electronics was elected an official member to the Technical Oversight Committee for O-RAN open-source project. This is the highest decision-making body in the O-RAN Software Community.

Over a term of office that begins this April and extends through to 2023, Samsung is set to play a key role in the decision-making undertaken by the O-RAN open source project’s TOC.

Active Participation for the Future of Telecommunications Technologies

Samsung’s participation in O-RAN Alliance has allowed it to expand its presence in Open RAN. This domain is currently in high demand due to its potential as the next generation radio access network technology (RAN). The company has continuously developed open-source code over the last two years for RAN Intelligent Controllers (RIC).

Thanks to this pioneering work, Samsung has been elected as an official member of the TOC, the top voting body of the O-RAN SC, along with 11 other companies. JinGuk Jeong, Vice President and Head of Advanced Solutions Team at Samsung Researchh1‘s Advanced Communications Research Center has now begun his term as the company’s representative to the TOC following the membership offer.

Oppo Reno7 5G in for review

Oppo Reno7 5G in for review

This is the Oppo Reno7 5G and it’s the latest arrival at GSMArena HQ. Here’s a quick unboxing while we go through the review process.

The Reno7 5G comes with a 65W charger, a USB-A to USB-C cable, SIM tool, and a nice case.

Here’s the Reno7 5G, sitting in the middle here, pictured next to the Reno7 (non-5G), on the left, and the Reno7 Lite all the way on the right. The family resemblance is clear with the squarish camera island on the back and 6. 43-inch AMOLED with a left-placed punch-hole camera on the front.

The Reno7 5G we have at the office is the Startrails Blue color, which has literal textured strokes etched into the rear panel. The panel itself is predominantly blueish, but tilt the phone at an angle and it starts to show off a rose-gold to a pinkish hue. The hues will intensify if you blast it with direct sunlight. Oppo Reno finishes are a favorite of ours, and we think this is the best.

Oppo Reno7 5G

A word on specs and performance. The Reno7 5G uses the MediaTek Dimensity 900 chipset, paired with 8GB of RAM. The display has a 90Hz refresh rate, which adds a layer of snappiness when using the phone. ColorOS 12 comes as standard on the Reno7 5G, but it’s overlaid on top of Android 11, which is a big no-no at this stage of the year.

Another irk we have with the Oppo Reno7 5G’s software is that it’s stuffed with preloaded apps that you might not want – PUBG Mobile, Booking.com, LinkedIn, Amazon Prime Video, and Music, Amazon Shopping, Facebook, and Netflix – they take up a lot of storage. Luckily the Reno7 5G comes with 256GB built-in, in our case.

We have another review, so please leave it to us and keep watching!

Relieve knee pain and heal injuries with this innovative dual-light therapy of the Reviiv Knee+

Relieve knee pain and heal injuries with this innovative dual-light therapy of the Reviiv Knee+

We attach a lot of technologies to our bodies, not yet including the smartphones we keep close, most of which are designed to monitor our health or diagnose potential problems. None of them can help you if something happens, other than to make an emergency call or send a message. That’s what sets the Reviiv Knee+ apart because it can actually help reduce knee pain or help accelerate the healing process, thanks to its use of LED and laser lights to simulate blood flow. Even better, the device’s modular and comfortable design lets you easily strap it around your injured knee, letting the medical-grade light panels get close to your aching joints and damaged tissues.

Designer: Reviiv Design Labs

Click Here to Buy Now: $289 $499 ($210 off). Hurry, use Coupon Code “YANKODESIGN EXCLUSIVE”. Offer ends May 1st 2022, midnight PST.

You might scoff at the thought of worrying too much about knee pains, but you might also be shocked to learn that 4 out of every 10 people in the world actually suffer from it chronically. The reasons are varied, ranging from unavoidable factors like genetics, age, and location, to choices we make ourselves, like our lifestyles or our work. It’s not difficult to have chronic knee pain, but it is possible to find relief.

The Reviiv Knee+ is almost as easy. It allows you to place light panels over pain zones in order for it to perform its dual-light magic. Magnetic straps that adjust magnetically to hold panels securely around the leg ensure no one gets left behind, regardless of whether they are smaller or larger.

Targets the right pain points accurately.

Knee+ uses the underrated power of light to help the body’s healing process through photobiomodulation. This scientific mouthful only means that light enhances the natural mitochondrial functions of cells to speed up the regeneration of damaged cells. In this case, LED and laser lights work in tandem to make sure that light penetrates the entire leg, from the 650nm depth of red LED light to the 808nm depth of near-infrared laser. Dual-light therapy with Knee+ can provide fast relief, as well as positive long-term effects, regardless of whether the injury or cause is red LED light, near-infrared laser, or tired athletes.

Despite the Knee+’s medical uses, it is not a bulky and heavy machine that should be stored in your trunk or at home. The Knee+ is designed to quickly come to your rescue whenever it’s needed. It can easily be carried around in a backpack when you are out.

The modular connections between the straps make it easy to put it together or take it apart. Additionally, the carrying case doubles up as a magnetic dock to charge the light panels. This means you don’t need to worry about running out of battery. Best of all, you don’t need to ask a medical professional to use it. Simply put it on, and it will automatically determine and adjust the dosage cycle for you. And at less than $300, you won’t have to break your bank to heal your broken knee with the modular Reviiv Knee+ and its almost magical dual-light therapy.

Google Cinema projector with its own wireless speaker is the fancy way to bing-watch movies in your ‘Nest’

Google Cinema projector with its own wireless speaker is the fancy way to bing-watch movies in your ‘Nest’

Google per se hasn’t delved into the projector game just yet, even though projectors with Android OS built-in have been around for pretty long. Since the idea of watching a movie on the TV screen is slightly old-school, the biggest tech brands have already got their idea(s) of a projector on the market. Before Google can create one to integrate into the Google Home ecosystem, a designer has given us a head start on what that future could literally hold.

This idea in line with Google’s design language is called Google Cinema; easy, right! The purpose of the entire design is as simple as the name: to present a cinematic experience at home that is already neck-deep in Google’s smart home product cycle. According to designer Andrea Gallarini, the brain behind the Google Cinema, a projector helps make viewing of your favorite media more engaging. To achieve this, and to give it some Google tinge, the projector is scaled within the Google Home ecosystem, so it can leverage the support and integration of all Google Next products.

Designer: Andrea Gallarini

Google Cinema thus makes the viewing experience much more immersive by projecting your content and allowing you to experience it in a unique way. The projector can communicate with other Google smart home products thus creating a bubble around the user for a cinematic experience; thus, getting its random name. Google Cinema is available in two versions: Home Cinema or Cinema Mini. While the former comprises two elements; the base and the projector, the latter is a standalone projector. Home Cinema’s base is essentially a wireless speaker, which doubles as a magnetically attached stand for the projector. The base also serves as Qi charging unit for the battery-powered Home Cinema projector. In Cinema Mini configuration, Google Cinema comes without the speaker base and is provided with only a flat charging base it can rest on, making this version slightly more travel compatible.

The entire Google Cinema setup exudes minimal aesthetics with nice eco-friendly material construction, streamlined buttons, and fabric finish to align with Google’s design scheme. A projector’s brightness level and quality of its built-in speakers are indicators of its effectiveness. Though the conceptual Google Cinema has no value to divulge for the lumens count, it does accompany a handsome speaker alongside being able to interact with other devices for a surround sound experience.

Valorant new Agent Fade: Ability kit and Ultimate revealed

Valorant new Agent Fade: Ability kit and Ultimate revealed

Valorant‘s latest Agent is a hunter who’s in touch with some deadly looking shadows. Fade is the new Agent. It seems that her ability to see where her enemies are located makes her a Fade. She was revealed during the finals of Valorant‘s Masters Reykjavik tournament on Sunday. Fade is set to come to the game as part of Episode 4 Act 3, which should be released next week.

Fade’s abilities focus on finding enemy players and either blinding them or keeping them in place once she does. A ball of shadows is one of her abilities. Another creates small circles on the ground to keep enemies from getting too close. She also has a recon ability that will spot players and draw lines to their location, while her Ultimate does something similar across a large section of the map.

For a full look at Fade’s abilities you can find Riot’s official description below.

E — Haunt

Equip an evil entity. Set fire to toss the orb, which will fall to the ground within a certain time. The orb will become a terrifying entity when it reaches the ground. It will then reveal the locations of any enemies that are within its range of vision. This entity can be destroyed by enemies. Re-use the ability to drop the projectile early in flight.

Q — Seize

Equip an orb of nightmare ink. Set fire to toss the orb, which will fall to the ground within a certain time. Upon hitting the ground, the ink will explode and create a zone in which enemies who are caught in it cannot escape the zone by normal means. Re-use the ability to drop the projectile early in-flight.

C — Prowler

Equip the Prowler. The Prowler will travel straight if it is surrounded by fire. The Prowler will lock onto any enemies or trails in their frontal vision cone and chase them, near-sighting them if it reaches them. To steer the Prowler towards your crosshair, hold the fire button.

X — Nightfall

Equip fear with the power of fear. Fire to send out a wave of nightmare energy that can traverse through walls. This energy leaves a trail for the enemy and deafens or decays them.

Gurman: Apple Watch could feature satellite connectivity in a future model

Gurman: Apple Watch could feature satellite connectivity in a future model

Last year, rumors about the iPhone 13 getting a satellite connectivity started to spread. Although this iPhone didn’t get the feature, it’s rumored that the upcoming iPhone 14 could have it for emergencies or to send short texts to emergency contacts when out of cellular service range.

Now, according to a new report by Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman, the next Apple Watch could also feature this extra technology.

In his Power On newsletter, the journalist says “the Apple Watch is also destined to get that functionality,” although Gurman believes Apple’s timeframe could be this year or 2023.

The technology could be used on an iPhone, Apple Watch or other mobile devices. It would offer an alternative to Garmin InReach Explorer and SpOT handheld satellite communicators that have similar features.

There have been signs lately that Apple and its apparent satellite partner Globalstar Inc. might be getting closer to launching such a feature. In February, Globalstar said it reached an agreement to buy 17 new satellites to help power ‘continuous satellite services’ for a ‘potential’- and unnamed – cusstomer that had paid it hundreds of millions of dollars.

Since rumors point out that Apple could be aiming for three new Apple Watches this year – the regular model, a new SE, and a brand new Watch destined for extreme sports -, it would make sense if at least the regular model and the rugged Apple Watch get this feature.

Last year, Gurman was already doubtful about satellites communication launching with the iPhone 13 by saying the hardware wasn’t ready yet for the new phones. Even if the feature is launched this year it won’t likely to be available in all markets. Here’s what he wrote in August 2021:

” The emergency functions will not work in certain areas and in some markets that do not have cellular coverage. Apple envisions eventually deploying its own array of satellites to beam data to devices, but that plan is likely years away from taking off.”

Do you believe this feature could become the Apple Watch’s next major innovation? You can read our full roundup of what to expect about the Apple Watch Series 8 here. Please don’t hesitate to leave your comments below.

It may be too late to save the Overwatch fandom

It may be too late to save the Overwatch fandom

Overwatch‘s announcement trailer, released back in 2014, was bombastic and beautiful, and it kicked off a fervent fandom. Players loved the bright designs, strong characterization, and optimism inherent to the setting. The game’s launch and follow-up cinematics only solidified this fan base; people loved to ship characters, imagine their missions, and daydream about future lore. Overwatch was so widespread and iconic it even revolutionized the Rule 34 scene; the game was everywhere.

Then, just as suddenly, it vanished. The lore slowed to a trickle after 2018 and eventually came to a complete stop, along with major additions — we haven’t seen a new hero since 2020. Now, on the cusp of Overwatch 2‘s PvP entering beta and a new Overwatch League season, the game should be poised for a triumphant return. It’s now on unstable ground and other developers are taking Blizzard’s momentum and running with it.

Open the floodgates

Overwatch did not invent the idea of building a hero shooter around strong characters shown off through cinematics. Valve’s Team Fortress 2 and its “Meet the Team” cinematics still hold up nearly 15 years later, and they’re far less complex and elaborate than Overwatch‘s trailers.

But Overwatch‘s utopian near-future and diverse cast attracted a fan base that had been historically underserved by the first-person shooter genre. There were many queer and female gamers who gathered to play the game. Some were there for gameplay only, others for the characters and lore.

Overwatch was, during its heyday, a legitimate cultural phenomenon. A huge fanbase grew out of the stunning cinematics and vibrant characters, as well as hints at larger stories. People cosplayed Overwatch characters and their skins, created fan art, wrote long fanfiction epics, collaborated on 3D animations of their own original heroes, and more. These players were the heart of Overwatch fandom, playing the game and letting it fuel their imaginations.

The influence of Overwatch is apparent in many of its competitors. The importance of character rosters is greater than ever. Having a bunch of gunsmen with mysterious backstories does not cut it any more. Apex Legends, Rainbow Six Siege, and Valorant are all great examples of games where a character’s aesthetics, personalities, and background matter as much as their gameplay. Other developers now create and promote characters like Valorant‘s Neon, a Filipina speedster; Rainbow Six Siege‘s trans operator Osa, and nonbinary Apex Legends character Bloodhound.

Overwatch would lose out to these other titles in the coming years, not because of its roster or its lore, but because of the lack of consistency around it.

Plot, pacing, and purpose

Overwatch set up big, dramatic dominos — and then proceeded to just gesture at them and say “Pretty cool, huh?” There were big mysteries set up from day one, like a climactic showdown at Overwatch’s Swiss HQ. In the 2016 cinematic “Recall,” Winston presses the big red button to restart Overwatch. We don’t see Overwatch actually go on a mission until the 2019 cinematic “Zero Hour,” which sets up campaign content that currently has no release date.

My personal breaking point was the Storm Rising Archives event in 2019. This lore event culminated with a robot guy meeting with Doomfist, the leader of the terrorist organization Talon. He agreed to join the cause, then took off his hood to reveal … just, like, a robot guy. He has never been seen in person. There’s an unknown character who is more mysterious than the cast. I had waited months to find this out, and all it really left me to do was wait for more answers. I couldn’t do it anymore.

While Overwatch stumbled, games like Valorant and Apex Legends jumped in the gap. Valorant is set to release six new heroes a year, but more importantly, Riot has demonstrated it can sustain a fandom.

Valorant, in particular, establishes a comfortable “present” that fans can safely theorize about and imagine characters in. There are big story-heavy cinematics, but they’re also peppered with smaller pieces meant to set up the moment. You can watch Raze dance around her hometown and take a manga-inspired look at Yoru’s typical day. A cinematic from January called “Warm Up” shows a chunk of the cast hanging out and having target practice; there are no narrative stakes, no confrontations, no epic storyline. This is just bantering and fun action. There is no waiting in the wings for the story’s perfect conclusion.

Meanwhile, Overwatch fans would daydream about parts of the game’s canon as they waited for the next installation in the story, only to have their ideas about the past or present contradicted later as the plot lurched forward from reveal to reveal. Questions set up about Reaper, all the way back in 2016, were answered in a 2022 novella, but many fans were dissatisfied with the answers.

Too little, too late

At the end of 2021, Blizzard finally moved the Overwatch plot forward. The company released a series of comics showing cowboy outlaw Cole Cassidy, previously named Jesse McCree, getting the gang back together. Activision Blizzard changed the name of Cole Cassidy in October after a lawsuit against them for sexual harassment and discrimination.

There was also the 2020 Tracer comic, with a cute supporting cast, made by an artist I really love. It’s too late. There’s only so long you can bang on the pot with a ladle promising me the good slop, only delivering spoonfuls, before I go and find another trough.

Overwatch‘s lore has been in stasis for so long, and its fandom has been so willing to make a meal out of the crumbs sprinkled out over the years, that I feel like the fans’ version of the cast is more concrete than the actual canon. The Reaper story was short and my reaction to it was somewhat confused. I don’t know who this guy is, but he’s not Reaper to me.

It’s possible that Blizzard will be able to recapture the magic with Overwatch 2‘s updates and upcoming PvE campaigns, and it’s also possible that the train has left the station. There was a brief, shining moment in my life in which I truly loved Overwatch. It’s now that I feel somewhat frustrated about the franchise. There’s only so long you ask players to wait and see before they just give up altogether.
