Shine Turbine is one compact and portable wind energy generator

Wind turbines are slowly becoming a more important part of the energy industry. They are being designed and deployed in more countries in different ways. Some will say the more significant in size, the better, but it’s not always the case.

The Shine Turbine may be small, but it is good enough to power your mobile devices. It is the best way to juice up your small gadgets like smartphones, tablets, cameras, or lights. You can bring it anywhere, especially when you plan on having outdoor adventures.

Designers: Cat Adalay and Rachel Carr

Shine Turbine

Aurea is a company based in Canada headed by two ladies: mechanical engineer Cat Adalay and designer Rachel Carr. They designed this portable wind turbine that can self-charge its internal battery, which is enough for small gadgets. However, what makes the Shine Turbine a possible bestseller is the fact that it can be fast in storing and generating electricity. Even in extreme weather conditions, it can generate energy. However, it’s small that it can collapse into an average size of a 1ML water battle.

Shine Turbine

Shine+Turbine+Home+Hero

Area’s founder Adalay said it’s a “wind power that fits in your backpack”. She noted that wind is the second biggest clean energy producer, but it’s not that accessible. The Shine Turbine is designed to address several problems faced especially by outdoor enthusiasts. Adalay’s team developed a wind power product that allows everyone to produce clean energy for their own personal use.

Shine Turbine

It’s a wind turbine, so it obviously needs the wind. This means it’s ideal to use, especially during windy days, whether night or day or even when raining. It is set on a tripod and features its own 5V 12,000mAh battery. The device itself is 40-watts and weighs three pounds only.

Shine Turbine

The Shine Turbine can charge most mobile devices via USB. However, we imagine it can be used more for smartphones. It can be helpful as it only needs 20 minutes to juice up a phone. The crowdfunded project has been a success, with more than $400,000 in pledges.

Shine Turbine

This lightweight and compact wind turbine can fit your backpack. It mainly uses wind to charge gadgets on the go. The mount and blades are collapsible and can collapse into a smaller housing. You can say it looks like a blimp —a small one that kids may think it’s a toy. But it’s not a toy, so make sure kids don’t go near one because of the blades.

Black Shark 5 Pro leads Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 domination of AnTuTu ranking in April

Black Shark 5 Pro leads Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 domination of AnTuTu ranking in April

Latest ranking from AnTuTu revealed a Qualcomm domination both in the flagship and mid-range segments. Nine out of the top 10 best performing flagships run on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, while seven out of the top 10 midrangers are powered by the Snapdragon 870.

However, Dimensity 8100-powered devices managed to steal the first top spots in the mid-range competition, while the Black Shark 5 Pro dominated the most powerful segment.

Black Shark 5 Pro leads AnTuTu in April amidst Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 domination

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 domination here is logical, given the fact Exynos 2200 phones are not selling in China, Dimensity 9000 devices are only now coming out and Kirin chipsets dropped off the race.

The AnTuTu benchmark measures four components of a chipset’s performance: CPU, GPU, UX, and memory performance. Manufacturers may opt to optimize their hardware for an AnTuTu higher score.

The mid-range field reveals the Dimensity 8100 is a runaway leader, with the Snapdragon 870 a distant second. We should expect more devices to join this list once manufacturers get their hands on new chips but that might not be soon, given how the mobile industry is still struggling with supply chain issues.

The monthly AnTuTu results are the average of all runs for devices with at least 1,000 samples.

Honor Magic4 Pro global release imminent, listings reveal

Honor Magic4 Pro global release imminent, listings reveal

It seems Honor’s Magic4 Pro is due to launch in Europe soon as the company’s French and UK online shops have listed the device. The French site reveals an early bird sales event taking place from May 1 – 30 with EUR100 coupons off the phone’s final price. The actual price was not detailed on the site but the phone was initially announced with a EUR1,099 asking price back in February during MWC so we can assume the early-bird coupon will bring it down to EUR999.

Honor Magic4 Pro global release imminent

Honor France is listing the Magic4 Pro in black and cyan colors but it remains to be seen if the Gold, White and Orange vegan leather variants will also make their way to Europe. Honor Magic4 Pro brings a quad-curved 6. 81-inch LTPO OLED with a 120Hz refresh rate, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and 100W fast charging. There’s no word if the regular Magic4 or the top-tier Magic4 Ultimate will also make their way to Europe. You can check out our brief hands-on impressions of the Magic4 Pro here.

Bixby allows users to control all their appliances with a single conversation. SmartThings makes automating everyday tasks easy and quick. These tasks can be set up as routines within the SmartThings app. This will eliminate the need to repeat the same daily chores, like manually setting the laundry detergent and air purifier settings each time you open a new window. SmartThings Home Life is a customized service that will make your life easier and more efficient. Learn more about SmartThings Home Life and how it can make your life easier, more efficient, and safer.

Indulge in a Delicious Dinner for One

After spending a hard week in the office, it was time to go home and grab some beef tenderloin. When I return home, I’m unsure of what I want to cook, so I say, “Hi Bixby, find me some recipes with beef tenderloin.” After hearing a few options, I choose the recipe that sounds the most appetizing and begin cooking right away. Bixby says that the secret to making this dish delicious is roasting the meat properly. The Sensor Cook is used to cook the tenderloin until medium. The kitchen hood turns on automatically as soon as I start using the induction, so I continue to cook without worrying about any lingering odors in the house. Although I am not the best chef in the world, I love cooking perfectly seared steaks.

Before I start eating, I open the window to feel the spring breeze. SmartThings Cooking suggests a wine to complement my steak as I prepare it. The air purifier then turns on when the air is filtered through the window. After taking pictures of my first successfully cooked meal, I take a sip of wine. It feels as if the fatigue from an exhausting week just melts away.

# SmartThings Cooking

SmartThings cooking is an online service that allows users to prepare delicious meals as if they were a professional chef. Thanks to an interactive cooking guide that reads out recipes and sends instructions to kitchen appliances, users can solely focus on cooking without the need to dig through recipe books while handling food. Going even further for convenience, users can enjoy high-quality cuisine by simply scanning the bar code on a meal kit. SmartThings Cooking can help you prepare your meals using connected kitchen appliances. SmartThings Cooking also scans the meat packaging labels to provide tips and recommendations on how to store your food. Users can also scan wine labels to save them to a wine list, keep track of their inventory and get recipe recommendations that pair well with each wine.

# SmartThings Air Care

SmartThings offers a comprehensive air-care solution that uses your existing home appliances such as air conditioners or purifiers. You can breathe easy with the Air Quality Keeper, which monitors and controls the air quality in your home automatically. Based on the current air conditions, the app recommends indoor purification techniques to keep your home healthy. You can have clean, fresh air no matter where you are, whether it’s in your living room or in the kitchen.

Take Care of Your Pet From a Distance

These days due to a work-related project, I’ve not always been able make it back home in time. Max has been staying home alone more lately, and I am worried. Thankfully, whenever I miss him, I open the SmartThings app to check on him. The app used to alert me when Max was alone. However, these alarms decreased once he started training with his vet. He is doing so well at home, which I am proud of. I turn on the lights and TV with the app in the evening so Max doesn’t feel lonely. It looks like I’ll be working overtime again today, so I fill up Max’s dinner in his bowl through a feeder in advance.

Suddenly, a SmartThings Home Care notification pops up from my parents’ house. I turn on my parent’s Jet Bot AI camera to look around, discovering that my mom tripped on the kitchen floor. I immediately call her, and she says that she cried out for help when she fell and couldn’t get up afterward. She said that she was not hurt. Max and I are going to be visiting Max this weekend.

# SmartThings Pet Care

SmartThings Pet Care creates a customized environment for any pet using your connected home devices. For instance, your air conditioner can be set to an optimal temperature depending on your pet’s breed, and your air purifier can effectively clean your pet’s fur from the air. You can turn the TV on or listen to music while your pet is at home. This creates a safe and stable environment that will keep them company no matter where they live. Users can also receive notification when pets bark, and review their notifications history to spot any signs of separation anxiety.

# SmartThings Home Care

SmartThings Home Care provides security and peace of mind for every home. The Jet Bot AI will send an immediate alert to other relatives if it detects that a member of the family shouts “Hi Bixby! Please help!” Users can then search all over the house using the camera on the robot vacuum cleaner or contact another family member to help handle the situation. With safety at its core, SmartThings Home Care’s Family Care service can help alleviate concerns about leaving any family members alone in the house.

Keep Your Golf Clothes Lasting Longer

I enjoy spending my Sundays with friends playing golf. To keep my new golf shoes clean and in good condition after a round of golf, I store them in the ShoeDresser. The shoes are comfortable, so I want to keep them in good condition and wear them the next time I play 18 holes. After putting away my shoes, I go to the dressing room and put my golf wear in the AirDresser. SmartThings Clothing Care suggests a washing cycle that is perfect for my pants and golf shirt fabric. I save this cycle as ‘My Golf Care’. From there, I use the time I saved to organize the rest of my gear. I always feel recharged after spending the weekend playing golf, and it gives me full energy to start another week.

# SmartThings Clothing Care

SmartThings Clothing Care is a service that makes properly caring for clothes fun and easy. The service learns your specific habits based on the time, day and weather. From there, SmartThings Clothing Care suggests appropriate clothing care tips for the washer, dryer, AirDresser and ShoeDresser suitable for your clothes and shoes. This service provides holistic, integrated care for your wardrobe, depending on each piece’s use or purpose. Properly caring for clothing can be difficult. These clothing suggestions can be saved and named in SmartThings to create an automatic course. This will ensure that your clothes lasts for years without having to remember all details. To maximize the effectiveness of all your garment care products, the suggestions provided will help you manage your clothes as a professional.

Celebrate Spring With a Deep Clean

As the weather gets warmer, I always bring in the new season with some spring cleaning. I start by planting some flowers and washing my winter blankets. SmartThings alerted me to change my purifier filters a few days back. The filters arrived just in time, so I replace them right away. As I have completed an important spring cleaning task, I feel productive. Next, I dust every corner of the house. After a hard day, I relax on the sofa and enjoy a glass or two of chilled water. I look forward to the upcoming spring season.

# SmartThings Home Care

SmartThings Home Care is a service that not only keeps tabs on all of your Samsung home appliances, but also responds to and helps prevent problems by predicting them in advance. The app will alert you if the temperature drops rapidly and send you an alert about a freeze danger. The app also provides a guide to defrost and suggests that you use the air conditioner’s diagnostic features as temperatures rise. Additionally, the service checks the status of any replaceable components in real time, sending you a notification when a replacement is required and streamlining your process to purchase a replacement. SmartThings Home Care offers a friendly chatbot and a step-by-step guide to help users troubleshoot their home appliances.

Save Energy Today for a Better Tomorrow

I’m very passionate about saving the environment I carry a tumbler instead of a disposable cup, I use an eco-bag to avoid plastic bags and I eat a vegan diet. Recently, I’ve been exploring other ways to reduce my carbon footprint, so I have been looking into managing the energy consumption of my home appliances. With SmartThings Energy, I can check how much energy each device uses, control its energy consumption and receive tips on reducing energy usage for my most used devices. The best part is the AI Saving Mode, which automatically switches my devices to Energy Saving Mode before they reach a preset usage target. My efforts, no matter how small or large, will help to build a sustainable tomorrow.

Apple Watch Series 7 now available from Apple Refurbished Store

Apple Watch Series 7 now available from Apple Refurbished Store

Apple on Monday quietly started selling refurbished models of the Apple Watch Series 7 in its online store. Customers can now save up to $70 by choosing a refurbished Series 7 model compared to the retail price at the Apple Store – but not all versions are currently available.

The 41mm aluminum Apple Watch Series 7 with a regular sport band is being sold for $339 at the Apple Refurbished Store, down from $399 compared to the official price of a new unit. As for the 45mm model, the refurbished price is $359. Both prices refer to GPS models only, without Cellular connectivity.

However, as noted by MacRumors, the only refurbished options available for the Apple Watch Series 7 lineup are the aluminum case models at this time. If you are looking for titanium and stainless steel versions, then you will need to purchase a new unit.

Apple Watch Series 7 was released in October 2021 with a larger screen and thinner bezels. Inside, the latest Apple Watch has almost the same components as the Apple Watch Series 6, which is no longer sold by Apple (although you can still find it at the Refurbished Store).

Apple Certified refurbished products are used devices that have been through Apple’s rigorous refurbishment before being sold. Only a few units may be returned for technical reasons, but all devices go through Apple’s rigorous quality refurbishment. The refurbished units will be shipped in an alternative box, with the original accessories and a one-year warranty.

You can check out all the refurbished models available on the Apple Refurbished Store website. Prices and availability may differ by country. Of course, you can also look for Apple Watch deals for lower prices on Amazon and other stores.

Quanta Vici jackets and gloves let you choose how warm you want to be

Quanta Vici jackets and gloves let you choose how warm you want to be

You don’t have to choose between warm and cold anymore with our range of stylish smart thermal clothes.

While it is possible to debate the causes of the changes, it is hard not to agree that weather patterns have been quite irregular and off-kilter in recent years. Seasons extend beyond their normal dates, and temperatures can go to extremes. For those that have to deal with cold weather, be it by force or by recreational choice, the selection of clothing to keep them from freezing to death is wide but shallow. You don’t have much control over how warm you can keep, so you will need to put on more layers of clothing or remove them, depending on your mood. Our winter clothing doesn’t have to be as tech-savvy and smart today. Someone finally merged two things to make a range of stylish and comfortable thermal clothes.

Designer Adrien Beyk, Quanta Vici

Click Here to Buy Now: $184 $410 (54% off). Hurry, less than 48 hours left!

Winter wear is mostly designed to trap your own body heat to keep you warm, and that’s pretty much it. You can only wear layers until the cold is too severe to bear. You can’t really go anywhere in between, much less opt for a slightly “chill” temperature if you’re the type that likes a tiny bit of cold. Heaters and thermostats can do that for rooms and cars, but not for clothing, at least until now.

Quanta Vici’s new thermal clothing lineup brings that freedom and flexibility to thermal jackets, vests, and gloves. Your smartphone can let you choose how hot or cold you would like to feel. Better yet, the built-in thermostat from the “Smart” range can automatically do that for you, detecting the temperature inside the clothing in order to maintain that perfect level that you chose.

Although these features may sound geeky, Quanta Vici’s apparel looks anything but. The jackets, and particularly the gloves, look very fashionable. They would look great on a runway. Particularly the gloves are made from vegan-friendly, animal-free leather so that you won’t feel ashamed about sporting such an elegant accessory. It’s also friendly to your phone’s touch screen, so you don’t have to worry about freezing your finger off just to use your device.

Both the vest and slim jacket are made of recycled polyester. This continues the theme sustainability. Even the zippers are recycled, so you can enjoy the warmth that the smart jackets give while also feeling good about your positive impact on the environment. Although the clothing can be washed, you will need to make sure that you remove the battery before washing it.

The Quanta Vici smart thermal clothing line is exclusive to Kickstarter and starts at $149 for the “base” range, while the “smart” line with the built-in thermostat starts at $179. But with this one-time Kickstarter-exclusive flash sale, you can get any single Smart product, be it the jacket, vest, or glove, for only $159.

Elegant, effective, and environment-friendly, Quanta Vici’s smart heated slim jackets and leather gloves demonstrate the true meaning of wearables without going overboard on the tech.

EU antitrust complaint against Apple Pay was supported by PayPal

EU antitrust complaint against Apple Pay was supported by PayPal

The European Union has shared an earlier Statement of Objections in which it criticizes Apple’s restriction on NFC technology for the iPhone. Now a report from Bloomberg reveals that PayPal was one of the companies that supported the EU’s antitrust complaints against Apple Pay.

According to sources with knowledge of the situation, the report alleges that PayPal assisted in the filing of a formal antitrust lawsuit against Apple Pay and Apple Pay with European Commission. PayPal offers Android users a tap-to-pay feature that uses NFC. However, the iPhone does not allow the service.

However, Bloomberg says that PayPal was only “one of multiple companies” that made formal complaints about the situation to the European Commission.

iPhone 6 was the first Apple smartphone to feature NFC technology, which allows data transmission between two devices when they are in close proximity to each other. NFC technology on iPhones was only available to Apple Pay. This company allows users to register credit or debit cards and pay in store using their iPhones, Apple Watches, or their Apple Watch.

In 2017, Apple partially opened up access to the iPhone’s NFC chip to developers with iOS 11. However, the company never allowed payment apps to use this API. In a recent statement, Apple said that Apple Pay is “only one of many options available to European consumers for making payments,” although it’s the only one that works with NFC on the iPhone.

Apple introduced “Tap toPay” earlier this year for iPhone. This turns your phone into a contactless terminal that can be used to receive payments from third-party applications. This doesn’t allow other apps to use NFC payments on iPhone.

9to5Mac’s Take

While today’s EU declaration is only an “initial view”, it’s clear that Apple faces many challenges in restricting the features of its devices to its platforms. Apple may have to allow NFC access to developers in the near future.

As suggested by 9to5Mac’s Ben Lovejoy, Apple could easily get rid of all the antitrust allegations by dropping some of these restrictions on developers, while also letting users choose which apps they want to use as default. Apple doesn’t appear to be willing to compromise.

Personally, I don’t think opening up the iOS ecosystem would hurt users or even Apple itself. Lovejoy stated that most people would continue to use Apple services by default. In terms of security, the company should have ways in place to make sure that legitimate payment apps can access the NFC API.

Apple needs to show some love for the old watch faces with watchOS 9

Apple needs to show some love for the old watch faces with watchOS 9

We’re a month away from WWDC when Apple will unveil the next major updates to its operating systems – including watchOS. While some users are certainly hoping for new features and even new watch faces with watchOS 9, I just wish Apple would show some love for the old watch faces in the Apple Watch operating system.

I’ve been using Apple Watch for years now, and one of my favorite features is the ability to customize it with different watch faces. With watchOS 8, users have over 40 styles that can be customized any way they want, resulting in even more combinations of watch faces.

The Apple Watch has changed a lot over the years. The Apple Watch has evolved to be faster, and it has been slightly redesigned with bigger screens. Apple introduced new watch faces in order to make the most of its new hardware. However, old watches faces remain and look the same as when they were first introduced.

The Siri watch face, introduced in 2017 with watchOS 4, was one of my favorites. Based on your iPhone or Apple Watch usage, it automatically determines which information to display, including the weather, stock prices, home automations and reminders. It’s super convenient for a smartwatch.

However, this watch face has been all but abandoned by Apple. It was never updated to include more complications, support for more apps, or even to show more information on larger screens. It’s the same watch face created with Apple Series 3 in mind but now expanded for the Apple Watch Series 7 giant screen.

Siri Apple Watch face in watchOS 8.

And just like this one, there are other watch faces that are still available in watchOS in the same situation. They just look outdated on today’s hardware. It would be wonderful if the watch faces had a modern, more contemporary look.

watchOS 9 might fix this

Luckily, there seems to be hope for users who, like me, believe that the old watch faces still have the potential to shine on modern Apple Watch models. According to a recent report, Apple has been working to refresh many of the Apple Watch faces with watchOS 9.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman also heard from sources that the next version of watchOS will feature a Low Power Mode that, unlike Power Reserve Mode, will save some battery without shutting down all Apple Watch apps and features. This is something that other smartwatches already offer and is quite useful for extending battery life without having to give up on smart features.

But what about you? Are there any old watch faces that you’d like Apple to revamp? Comment below.

https://i0.wp.com/9to5mac.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2022/05/Apple-Watch-watchOS-faces.jpg?resize=1200%2C628&quality=82&strip=all&ssl=1
