Oppo’s clamshell foldable smartphone is coming soon with affordable price

Oppo’s clamshell foldable smartphone is coming soon with affordable price

Oppo released its first foldable smartphone in December: the Find N. However, it is already developing other devices for its foldables range. And the next one is rumored to be a vertical, clamshell ‘flip phone’ style foldable, like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 or the Huawei P50 Pocket.

Unlike the others, however, Oppo will be cheaper – which makes sense considering that the Find N was also less expensive than the Oppo when it first launched in China. The ‘flip’ Oppo will apparently go for around CNY 5,000, according to a rumor out of China, and that currently translates into approximately $756 or EUR718. To put this in context, the P50 Pocket starts at CNY 8,988 in China ($1,360 or EUR1,292), while the Galaxy Z Flip3 can be had for CNY 7,399 ($1,119 or EUR1,063).

Oppo Find NOppo Find N

We’re happy that Oppo seems intent on playing the price card when it comes to foldables, but it’s also rather weird to see, since its pricing strategy for the rest of its devices has always been the exact opposite. Anyway, the Oppo ‘flip phone’ is allegedly going to sport the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ SoC, which means it can launch this summer at the earliest. We’ll keep you posted.

Apple opening submissions for in-person WWDC 2022 application next week

In April, Apple announced that WWDC 2022 will take place on June 6. Alongside that, some developers will be able to attend an all-day experience at Apple Park. Now, the company has shared more details for those who want to submit an application for the WWDC 2022 in-person experience.

The most important piece of information is that submissions start on May 9. Apple describes who is eligible to submit a request

Attending this event is free and open to members of the Apple Developer Program and Apple Developer Enterprise Program. Invitations will be allocated through a random selection process and are non-transferrable.

Developers can submit their requests to participate in this in-person WWDC 2022 experience from May 9 at 9:00 a.m. PT to May 11 at 9:00 a.m. PT. On May 12 at 6:00 p.m. PT, people will be notified of their status.

To guarantee the health of everyone at Apple Park, attendees “must follow Apple’s health and safety protocols, which also take into account the latest requirements and guidance from public health authorities regarding COVID-19.” Although the company doesn’t mention proof of vaccination, it says a negative COVID-19 test no more than three days before the event is required.

In addition, masks are currently optional, although the company will provide details on the latest requirements to attendees prior to the in-person WWDC 2022 experience.

You can submit your request on May 9 here.

Apart from that, there’s a Swift Student Challenge where developers will have to create a Swift Playgrounds 4 project. Learn more about the challenge by clicking here.

Apple poaches 31-year Ford veteran as it aims for self-driving EV launch by 2025

Apple poaches 31-year Ford veteran as it aims for self-driving EV launch by 2025

Apple is continuing to press ahead with its efforts to build a fully self-driving electric car, despite a number of personnel changes and strategy shifts over the years. Now, a new report from Bloomberg indicates that Apple has hired Desi Ujkashevic, a 31-year Ford veteran, to help it ramp up efforts on the Apple Car project.

Apple Car project expands with Ford exec

Notably, Apple’s hiring of Ujkashevic comes after Ford poached Doug Field from Apple last year. Tesla originally hired Field away from Apple in 2013 to help lead the production ramp for the Model 3. Field landed back at Apple in 2018 to help lead the Apple Car project, before departing for Ford in September of 2021.

Ujkashevic had worked at Ford since 1991, with her most recent title being the global director of automotive safety engineering. Bloomberg points out Ujkashevic’s ability to navigate regulatory issues. This is something Apple must deal with when it tries to produce a self-driving electric vehicle.

At Ford, Ujkashevic worked on a number of the company’s most popular vehicles including the Escape, Explorer, Fiesta and Focus models. She also worked on the Lincoln MKC and Aviator projects, as well as Ford’s push into the EV industry.

Apple’s VP of technology, Kevin Lynch, is believed to be spearheading most of the Apple Car team and project nowadays following the departure of Field. Apple is reportedly working on a full self-driving electric car, with the ambitious goal of releasing it as early as 2025.

9to5Mac’s Take

The rumors about Apple Car have fluctuated over time. There were reports that Apple Car was not interested in building a car, but was instead working with an automaker to create the technology.

Apple’s 2025 timeline is certainly ambitious, and likely unachievable. Ford’s latest hire of Ujkashevic shows that they are indeed pushing ahead with their electric car endeavors. How successful Apple will be remains to be seen, especially as the industry becomes increasingly competitive with companies like Tesla, Rivian, and Ford all ramping up their own respective EV projects.

While Apple is indeed an expert at production and supply chain management, manufacturing and shipping an electric car is an entirely different ballgame. This also calls for a wide infrastructure rollout to support charging and other services.

Apple’s goal is for its first electric vehicle is to drop both the traditional steering wheel and pedals. This signals the company believes its self-driving technology will be safe and reliable enough to do this. Tesla CEO Elon Musk promised that his company would ship a vehicle without a steering wheel by 2021, but that obviously (shockingly) did not come to fruition.

What do you think about the latest Apple Car rumors. Leave your thoughts in the comments.

Save Room is a Resident Evil 4-style ‘inventory Tetris’ puzzler

Save Room is a Resident Evil 4-style ‘inventory Tetris’ puzzler

There are many ways for games to handle the player’s inventory, but few are as elegant as the inventory Tetris style used in a few games — the most prominent of which is Resident Evil 4. Leon S. Kennedy had a whole smorgasbord of guns and gear to carry, and he did so by rotating items across a grid. Big and powerful things cover more space, but clever players could also pack their case with small, useful items like herbs and ammo. It was a very small but satisfying part of the game, and PC Gamer recently highlighted a tribute to that mechanic called Save Room – Organization Puzzle.

Save Room has the player take the role of a protagonist in a horror game, but only at the brief moments where the hero gets to rest, wounded and weary, and clear their head. You’ll have to arrange your stuff in order to make it to the safest spot. For the next 40 levels, the player has to neatly rotate and place a selection of items across the grid to pack their bags.

The game offers some interesting puzzles like having to carry around an entire case of gear or mixing and consuming certain items to get more space. If you love creating an efficient loadout, this is basically the game for you, and it’s currently under two dollars on Steam.

FIFA 22 cross-play coming soon in PS5, Xbox Series X test

FIFA 22 cross-play coming soon in PS5, Xbox Series X test

EA Sports will soon test cross-platform multiplayer in FIFA 22, pointing to the likelihood that this fall’s FIFA 23 will implement cross-play in all modes, for the first time in series history.

The cross-play test will involve the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Google Stadia versions of FIFA 22, and will cover matches in the Online Seasons and Online Friendlies mode. Online Friendlies can be played against one opponent; online Seasons will combine a variety of friendlies that move players through the ranked divisions.

EA Sports said on Tuesday that the trial will begin “in the near future.”

” While we wish to allow our players to play alongside as many people as they like, we have limited the testing to these modes in order to reduce the risk of new problems,” Goran Popovic from EA Vancouver stated in a FAQ. We are certain that these games and the feedback we receive will inform future titles .”

how Cross-play can be further developed.

When cross-play testing arrives via an update, players will see a widget at the bottom of the main menu. Clicking the button prompts to enable or disable cross platform play. In the Matchmaking Options Settings screen, there is an option to opt in or out.

Insiders and influencers back in March and April speculated that cross-play would be tested this year and implemented fully with the next FIFA. EA Sports’ benchmark title is one of the last major multiplayer games without cross-platform support, which began in earnest in the fall of 2018 when Sony allowed PlayStation users to play Fortnite against players on other consoles.

Popovic, in the FAQ, said the cross-play test “does not have any direct impact on the gameplay of FIFA 22.” That said, it should significantly boost the matchmaking opportunities for the Google Stadia version of the game, which has a dramatically smaller installation base than the consoles or Windows PC.

FIFA 22 just became available to PlayStation Plus subscribers for the month of May, however it is the PlayStation 4 version of the game (playable on PlayStation 5 through backward compatibility). This test is only for the native PlayStation 5 version of the game.

Samsung Unveils New PRO Endurance Memory Card Optimized for Surveillance and Dashboard Cameras

Samsung Unveils New PRO Endurance Memory Card Optimized for Surveillance and Dashboard Cameras – Samsung Global Newsroom

More durable, higher capacity microSD card enables up to 16 years of continuous recording and playback to capture every critical moment

Samsung Electronics, the world leader in advanced memory technology, today announced its new microSD card, the Samsung PRO Endurance. Uniquely designed to meet the rigorous demands of surveillance cameras, dashboard cameras, doorbell cameras, body cameras and more, the card offers improved endurance and outstanding performance for smooth and reliable continuous capture and playback.

“From CCTV to doorbell cameras, the need for long-lasting and high-performing video surveillance solutions is continuing to increase, and the PRO Endurance has been designed to support that demand,” said KyuYoung Lee, Vice President of the Memory Brand Product Biz Team at Samsung Electronics. “Both consumers and enterprise users can rest assured that our new memory card will ensure continuous recording at high resolution even under extreme conditions.”

Strengthened Endurance

Built with Samsung’s highly reliable enterprise-grade NAND flash memory, the PRO Endurance card can deliver up to 16 years (140,160 hours)1 of continuous recording time to ensure every critical moment is captured. This means a single PRO Endurance card can last as long as up to 33 typical speed-focused cards,2 saving frequent replacement costs and providing greater reliability for always-on video monitoring.

Improved Performance

Samsung’s new memory card also offers read and write speeds of up to 100 megabytes per second (MB/s) and 40 MB/s,3 respectively, and is rated Class 10 with video speed ratings of up to U3 (UHS Speed Class 3) and V30 (Video Speed Class 30). 4 This makes it ideal for handling large, high-resolution files while enabling seamless recording and playback in Full HD and 4K.

Long-Lasting Durability

Since outdoor surveillance and body cameras can be subject to harsh environments, the PRO Endurance has been engineered to offer trusted performance in everyday use with Samsung’s reinforced six-proof durability. In addition to protection against water, magnets, X-rays and extreme temperatures, the card is now wearout-proof and drop-proof. 5

Available in four different storage capacities of 32 gigabytes (GB), 64GB, 128GB and 256GB with the manufacturer’s suggested retail prices (MSRP) ranging from $10. 99 for the 32GB to $54. 99 for the 256GB, the PRO Endurance is available worldwide starting May 3.
