Google’s Pixel 6a was announced earlier this week at $449 in the US. We now get details on pricing and color options in more regions where Google plans to sell its latest midrange Pixel. Google has thus far confirmed that Pixel 6a will be available for pre-order in the US and Japan from July 21 but we don’t yet have details on the rest of the countries.
Google has priced the Pixel 6a fairly competitive in Europe with a €459 asking price for the single 6/128GB trim. Buyers in Singapore and Ireland will only get access to the Charcoal black color while all other regions will also get Sage and Chalk options. Pixel 6a is also expected to arrive to India though Google has not yet provided pricing and availability details.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2022) quietly launches with Android 12
Samsung has quietly come out with another 2022 edition of a 2020 device – the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite slate has been freshened up and is up on Amazon Italy, accepting pre-orders. Shipments and sales will begin on May 23.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2022)
Comparing the spec sheets of the original and of the 2022 edition, the major thing that sticks out is the Android version you get out of the box – the new slate comes with Android 12 instead of 10.
The original S6 Lite was updated to Android 12 a couple of months ago and is eligible for one more update (and a year of security patches after that). That said, given the relatively old hardware, it’s not clear what kind of update schedule the 2022 edition can expect.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2022 edition) highlights
The other thing we noticed is the price – the 4/64GB model costs €400, which is €20 more than the original did two years ago (that could be a variation in regional pricing). Also, we’re not seeing a 128GB version nor an LTE version, though that may be because the slate just launched and stores are still updating their online inventory (the 2022 edition doesn’t show up on Samsung Italy yet).
The contents of the retail package include an S Pen and a charger
The rest is the same. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2022) has a 10.4” LCD with 2,000 x 1,200px resolution, which supports the included S Pen. It is powered by a Snapdragon 720G chipset (with 4GB of RAM, 64GB storage and a microSD slot) and a 7,040mAh battery. There is a pair of AKG-tuned speakers with Dolby Atmos support and a 3.5mm jack. Check out our hands-on review of the original for more details, just keep in mind that the software is now Android 12 with One UI 4.0.
Top 10 Apple-inspired designs for tech lovers to drool over
Since its foundation in 1976, Apple has been always been at the peak of modern innovation! And let’s take a moment to appreciate all the awesome products and inspiration Apple has provided us with. The groundbreaking tech giant never fails to surprise us, we always find ourselves biting our nails and squirming with curiosity, whenever Apple announces a new product launch! Apple’s innovative and captivating designs have inspired designers around the globe, inspiring them to create some truly unique Apple-inspired designs. From an Apple game console concept to a 2022 MacBook Air render – these mind-blowing designs are the best of the lot and a dream for every Apple lover. We are very happy with Apple’s new launches. But, we just wish that Apple will make these designs a reality.
1. 2022 MacBook Air Concept
If you have been following Apple leaks, you would be aware that the MacBook Air is expected in multiple colors, which is more than the gold, silver, and space grays we are used to. There could be a variety of colors for the new MacBook Air that match the iMac’s colors. Taking leverage to show off the new MacBook Air renders in multiple colors, the YouTuber has created a design of the device to match that of the 14-inch MacBook Pro with the rounded body. The goal is to make the whole MacBook Air line look identical. Apple has always followed the same design strategy for all of its MacBook Air models in the past.
2. Apple game console concept
Built for peak gaming performance along with tactically placed joystick, buttons, and shoulder triggers; the Apple handheld console comes with complimentary photography and video shooting capabilities. The console is equipped with both a front and rear camera sensors. This latter is useful for streaming live games. For surround sound effects and identification of muffled enemies’ footsteps, the front-facing speakers can be found in the upper left and right corners.
3. AirPods Pro 2022 model
In line with the leaks and speculations about Apple’s upcoming flagship earbuds, designer Konstantin Milenin has created this concept AirPods Pro 2022 model to give our imagination a tangible form. Its stemless design makes it look compact and minimal. The charging case also gets a flatter design to accommodate these little earbuds. These earbuds are not as upright and lay flat like the original version. This will mean, a lot less space needed to stash them in your pocket or keep them in the bag pack.
4. iPhone Air
Before Apple perfects the iPhone that flips probably like the Motorola Razr, Antonio shows “iPhone Air”, a premium iPhone Flip with an iPhone 13 Pro-like, triple camera module. Next to the flagship-level camera array is the secondary display to show notifications when the iPhone is flipped close. The iPhone’s large display is brightened by a punch hole camera and a larger cutout for sensors when it is flipped open. The display looks as large as the rumored 8-inches with 144Hz screen refresh rates. This is indicative of Apple’s intention to offer iPhone Flip with a screen that’s larger than on the regular iPhone Pro Max variants. We love the conceptual interpretation of floating rumors in this iPhone Flip design, but the peculiar hinge distinction on the back is a put-off for me.
5. Macintosh Pocket
This Macintosh Pocket isn’t a simple rehash of that failed concept, though. It draws its inspiration from two different sources. You have the QWERTY keyboard, which is a small space and has been synonymous with BlackBerry. On another side, you have the two-step chassis of a Game Boy Pocket of that generation, hence the “Pocket” in the concept’s name. At the same time, you still have the telltale design language of Apple from the late 80s to early 90s, like that off-white color scheme and Macintosh keycaps.
6. Apple Arcade Pro
The Apple Arcade app/service may seem like a half-baked effort on Apple’s part to enter the gaming industry. Apple may not care that much about gaming or gamers beyond what they have shown at their keynotes. However, the Apple Arcade Pro changes ALL of that. Designed as a hardware concept that rivals the Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, or any of the Android-based gaming phones, the Apple Arcade Pro is a handheld console modeled on the iPhone, however with not one but TWO notches that allow the console to have its own button layouts.
7. Mac Mini Concept
An interesting concept design by Qocept Graphics gives us a purview of the Mac mini design for this year with very subtle modifications on the outside and some major improvements on the inside. The size on this one reduces the footprint a tad with dimensions of 13. 5cm in width and length, and a 3cm thickness – making it the thinnest Mac thus far. To provide extra protection to the aluminum body, and a premium overall feel, the Mac mini concept gets a 2cm thin acrylic enclosure. This also raises the machine slightly above the work surface for active dissipation of heat.
8. 27” iMac Pro
This iMac concept by Khahn Design features a 27” mini LED display with ProMotion technology. It also boasts darker yet slimmer bezels, 16GB RAM, and 512GB of storage. Additional features include an HDMI port and an SD card slot. The power adaptor also has an Ethernet port. It does look a little similar to the 24” iMac and the Pro Display XDR. It does look a little like the [********************************************************************************************************************************************************]’s iMac and Pro Display XDR. What do you think?
9. Portable M1 Mac Mini concept
Designer Scott Yu-Jan took to YouTube with an idea of a portable M1 Mac Mini, that paired with an iPad Mini, can be a MacBook alternative for the heavy-duty workaholics who would want to enjoy the power of M1 on the go without owning a MacBook. The DIYer, designer, and creator has made the Mac Mini really portable so that it would allow you to take your M1-powered workstation anywhere and use it conveniently as long as you can plug it into a socket.
10. Fresco XL
The suffix XL in Fresco XL comes from the fact that even though the car looks like a compact minivan, it is, in fact, an 8-seater sedan, designed to perform as an all-weather, off-roader too. It is trying to displace the sedan market in the same way that the Tesla Cybertruck did the pickup truck category. Well, probably. It looks more like a Daft Punk skull than an actual car. There is no branding, other than the Fresco logo on its front and back. The logo itself is barely visible unless you look at it in angled lighting. The purpose, one could assume, is to ensure the design of the car does the talking.
Apple WWDC 2022 will have limited in-person attendance
Apple revealed this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference is happening between June 6 and June 10 and will be streamed online. However we now learn there will also be in-person attendance, albeit limited. The opening keynote will still be pre-recorded, but the Apple Park at 1 Infinite Loop in Cupertino will open its doors to a limited number of developers.
The group of developers can view the keynote at the Apple engineers and designers’ company. In the beginning of this week’s conference, the few who were selected had to submit an online application. The company has now sent out invitations.
All attendees “must follow Apple’s health and safety protocols”, meaning a negative COVID-19 test must be provided, however, masks are optional. Once they are in, they will get a tour around the facilities of the new Developer Center at Apple Park.
Google details Android Auto makeover, split-screen is the new norm
Among the many announcements at this year’s I/O conference, Google detailed the new look of Android Auto coming to all users starting later this summer. The big change is that the UI will now adapt to the various car screen sizes and orientations with a default split-screen look. The goal is to give drivers fast and easy control over the three most used aspects of AA – maps, media controls and messaging.
Different screen orientations, same controls
Google Assistant, notifications and your apps library will be easily accessible on the dock and depending on if your car has a portrait or widescreen car screen the dock will be either on the bottom or at the side closest to the steering wheel. The Assistant now offers quick responses to your conversations, as well as options for sharing your expected arrival time with contacts.
Cars with built-in Android Auto OS like some of Volvo, Ford and GMC’s newer models will get added benefits while the car is parked. You can use the web browser to access YouTube, Tubi, and Epix Now videos on your car’s screen.
You’ll soon be able to watch movies on your car screen (Android Auto OS exclusive)
Google also shared it’s working to bring more video content and the ability to cast your videos to your car display.
Motorola introduced its latest midranger dubbed the Moto G82. The phone brings a 50MP main camera with OIS, an OLED screen and a big battery as its key selling points.
The Moto G82 is built around a 6. 6″ OLED screen with Full HD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. Motorola also says the panel offers 100% DCI-P3 gamut coverage.
The chipset of the Moto G82 is Snapdragon 695, and the Western European market is getting a version with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage (expandable through a micro SD slot).
The OLED display does allow a fingerprint scanner underneath, but the Moto G82 has it on the right-hand side, doubling as a power key.
Moto G82 features
Around the back the 50MP main camera comes complete with optical image stabilization. Alongside it are an 8 MP ultrawide shooter with 118-degree FoV and a 2MP macro snapper. The selfie camera mounted inside a punch hole has a 16MP sensor.
The battery capacity is 5,000mAh and it can be topped at rates up to 30W over the TurboPower standard. Better yet, the Moto G82 will have the required charger in the retail box.
Motorola Moto G82
Other features of the Motorola phone include dual SIM support with a separate slot for the micro SD, a 3. 5mm audio jack, and Android 12 that can be customized through My UX.
The Moto G82 is offered in Gray and White colors and costs EUR329. 99 in Europe. The new device will also roll out to selected markets in Latin America, Asia, India, and the Middle East.
OnePlus Ace Speed Edition incoming, will launch on May 17
OnePlus first announced its Ace smartphone in May. Now, the company is introducing a cheaper sibling. The new phone will be called OnePlus Ace Speed Edition and will arrive on May 17, as confirmed by the company.
The Weibo announcement also stated that the launch will be in China. We’re now curious if the phone will go overseas with a different name.
There are no specs about the phone yet. We can only assume it will have an LCD, given how the fingerprint scanner is visibly on the side, also acting as a power key. The image also reveals a speaker grill, a USB-C port, a microphone and a 3,5 mm audio jack on the bottom.
Now let’s discuss the camera design. The island is modeled after the OnePlus 10 Pro and its stovetop, and we are okay with the two shooters on the left. The right, however, is pure chaos, with the top circle housing the LED flash, a 2 MP sensor and definitely a dot that’s put there for some reason, while the bottom circle is a glass, nothing else.
OnePlus PGZ110 on TENAA
Sources report the phone (also translated as Ace Race) is already certified at TENAA and will have a 6. 59″ screen, a 2. 85 GHz CPU, and likely a Dimensity 8000 chipset. We will learn whether this is true on Tuesday when OnePlus launches the Ace Speed Edition.
