iQOO Z6 Pro 5G teased ahead of launch, will be powered by Snapdragon 778G

iQOO Z6 Pro 5G teased ahead of launch, will be powered by Snapdragon 778G

iQOO unveiled the Z6 last month, and the company will follow it up with a Pro variant soon, dubbed iQOO Z6 Pro 5G.

iQOO’s Indian branch teased the iQOO Z6 Pro 5G on Twitter, and while it hasn’t detailed the phone’s specs sheet yet, during the grand finale of iQOO Raid Nights, the company said that the Z6 Pro 5G will be “India’s fastest smartphone in 25K segment,” and it will score over 550,000 points in AnTuTu tests.

The phone maker didn’t reveal the iQOO Z6 Pro 5G’s processor, but a reliable source told us that it will come with the Snapdragon 778G SoC at the helm – the same chip that powered last year’s iQOO Z5, which scored 572,549 points in our AnTuTu 9 tests.

Our source further told us that the iQOO Z6 Pro 5G “will be heavy on performance and gaming” and “offer immersive gaming experience.” We are also told that the iQOO Z6 Pro 5G will launch in India in April, but there’s no confirmation on the date yet.

You can expect to hear more about the iQOO Z6 Pro 5G in the coming days since iQOO has kicked off its promo campaign.

The first OnePlus foldable smartphone will be the Oppo Find N, rumor says

The first OnePlus foldable smartphone will be the Oppo Find N, rumor says

See a new phone and think you’ve seen something eerily similar before? Increasingly that’s not just because all phones kind of look alike – there are also more and more rebrandings happening with every month that goes by. Xiaomi and its sub-brands Redmi and Poco are perhaps by far the guiltiest of playing this game, but Oppo and OnePlus are no strangers to it either. And according to a new rumor, they’re at it again.

The first OnePlus foldable smartphone will be the Oppo Find N, rumor has it

Apparently there is going to be a OnePlus foldable smartphone this year, and it’s one we’ve already met – the Oppo Find N. By a different name, of course, but the source of today’s rumor insists that’s going to be the only actual difference between the two. Unfortunately there’s no information yet about when we should expect this model to arrive on the market, and honestly it can’t come soon enough – the Find N is an excellent device, which Oppo doesn’t want to launch internationally for some reason, even though it’s gathered by far the most interest, internationally, of any Oppo product in recent years.

Apple’s BIGGEST design flaw gets (sort of) fixed by this YouTuber’s 3D-printed plastic accessory

Apple’s BIGGEST design flaw gets (sort of) fixed by this YouTuber’s 3D-printed plastic accessory

This video might be the most important for Unnecessary inventions’ YouTube channel

If you’ve been on the internet long enough, you’ll have come across Matty Benedetto or one of his hundreds of creations that solve some of the world’s most ridiculous problems, like wanting to eat an Oreo without hands, or wanting your sunglasses and AirPods to exist as one singular device. Benedetto finds ridiculous problems and over-engineers even more absurd solutions, prototyping them and putting them to the test (some are even available on his web store)… although this problem may not be so ridiculous after all. Widely touted as Apple’s biggest design flaw, the company’s Magic Mouse is infamous for needing to be flipped over in order to charge it, making it entirely useless in the process. It’s inelegant, and the only (logical) explanation seems to be the fact that Apple doesn’t want you using the mouse while you charge it, but Benedetto has a clever solution that defies it all… well, sort of.

Designer: Matt Benedetto (Unnecessary Inventions)

Having faced this problem too, Benedetto decided to tackle it head-on, or rather, underside-on, because that’s where the charging port is located on the Apple Magic Mouse. Benedetto’s solution just involved bending the wire and introducing a makeshift trolley that still allows you to slide the mouse around your mousepad/desk WITH the bent wire. Simple, isn’t it?

Made from 2 pieces of 3D-printed plastic, with massive ball-bearings on either side, this unnecessary invention lets you route an L-shaped lightning cable through it and right into the charging port. On the other side of the mouse lies its optical sensor, which Benedetto believes wouldn’t get affected too much, because his invention literally props the Magic Mouse up instead of having it lay flat against the surface. The Magic Mouse was tested with the handy gadget and it proved to be accurate. It could still function even when bent gently, but Benedetto didn’t have a solution.

Much to his chagrin, Benedetto discovered (quite literally the hard way) that no matter what sort of over-engineered solution he would come up with, it was doomed to fail. The evil folks at Apple did more than just place the Magic Mouse’s charging port in awkward places. They also installed a kill switch into the device, which caused the Magic Mouse to not work while charging. It’s quite clever, is it not? It’s Tim Cook telling us to buy the Magic Trackpad, I suppose.

Samsung Galaxy Watch5 Pro rumored to come with huge battery

Samsung Galaxy Watch5 Pro rumored to come with huge battery

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch4 family is comprised of amazing smartwatches with just one huge downside: battery life. The Korean company seems quite aware of this, as we’ve already heard a rumor stating that the Watch5 generation devices will have larger batteries.

But now the plot thickens, as a new rumor today says we should expect a newer, top tier Watch5 Pro that would sit above the Watch5 and Watch5 Classic in Samsung’s roster later this year.

Samsung Galaxy Watch5 Pro rumored to come with huge battery

And this Galaxy Watch5 Pro is said to come with a huge 572 mAh battery. To put that into context, the biggest Galaxy Watch4/Classic models have a 361 mAh cell. So this would be an almost 60% bigger capacity on the upcoming watch, which would probably still give under two-day battery life for the most intensive users. That said, those who don’t turn on all the features might actually make it past 48 hours of use with such a setup, and that sounds exciting.

And yet, there are caveats to consider. First off, this is likely to launch at an even higher price than the Galaxy Watch4 Classic 46mm did, which wasn’t cheap itself. Next up, all we have for now is an unconfirmed rumor, although the model number for the alleged Watch5 Pro (SM-R925) does show up in a Korean certification.

This only indicates that a Samsung device is being developed with such a model, but because the R begins with a “R”, we can assume it’s a wearable. No other details have been outed yet, and even the alleged sources for this rumor have claimed that it’s not 100% “confirmed” that the Watch5 Pro would actually be released – Samsung could still scrap the project. Let’s hope not, and let’s also hope the Watch5 family ships with some better straps than the Watch4 devices did.

This MagSafe mount + strap lets you securely attach your iPhone to practically anything

This MagSafe mount + strap lets you securely attach your iPhone to practically anything

Up until now, Apple’s interpretation of MagSafe meant ‘modularity’. With Moment’s Strap Anywhere mount, the MagSafe also means ‘hands-free’. The Strap Anywhere mount allows you to attach your iPhone to any handle or pipe. Moment claims that the idea was to enable users to attach iPhones to their indoor exercise equipment such as a treadmill, elliptical or squat rack. The strap’s silicone construction provides a friction-grip, and is even sturdy enough to double as a stand for your iPhone, letting you prop it up at an angle on your desk or yoga mat.

Designer: Moment

The Strap Anywhere Mount works with both the iPhone and MagSafe iPhone cases. Made from sweat-resistant material, the strap’s perfect for gym equipment, although its adjustable nature means you could technically use it anywhere, from your motorcycle to even your shopping cart! Moment engineered a proprietary configuration of magnets to provide extra strength, combined along with a grippy silicon material. Whether it withstands a bumpy ride on an offroad trail is yet to be determined, although I’d personally just stick to stationary indoor training equipment!

Canairi Fresh Air Monitor drops if air quality turns bad, pops back up once better

Canairi Fresh Air Monitor drops if air quality turns bad, pops back up once better

Air purifiers have already become necessary in every household, classroom, store, or office. People have been using purifiers in their homes, particularly those located near polluted places, even without any threat from the coronavirus.

It can be difficult to find the right purifier, particularly for your home. Most of the available models look dull. Good thing many brands and designers are coming up with exciting designs like the Medium Air Purifier-Freshener, the Bauhaus Air Purifier Concept, and the Blur Air Purifier. The latest that caught our attention isn’t precisely an air purifier, but it is a helpful tool that can tell you what to do with toxic gases or when the air is terrible.

Designer: Hans Hoite Augustenborg

Canairi Fresh Air Monitor 3

The Canairi Fresh Air Monitor will tell you two things: good air or bad air quality. When air quality is good, the canary bird will remain standing. The canary bird will drop if the air quality is poor. This idea is based on the belief that in order to detect dangers, such as carbon monoxide, canary bids could be used in coal mines. If a bird falls, it is likely that they are breathing in toxic gases. They should get out immediately. This is the exact same principle that underlies the Canary Smart Speaker, which we have just shown you.

Canairi Fresh Air Monitor 2

Canairi Fresh Air Monitor 1

The Canairi Fresh Air Monitor comes with a built-in CO2 sensor. It’s mainly a sensor for the presence of carbon dioxide in the air. The bird droppings indicate poor air quality and should be opened. The bird will be back to life once the air quality is better. The yellow bird will tell you when it’s time to do something and ventilate the home.

Canairi Fresh Air Monitor 1

The Canairi has a CO2-sensor that activates a motor to make the bird go down. It drops when the CO2 goes over 1000 ppm for more than ten minutes. The Canairi will drop if it drops below this level for more than ten minutes. The designer described the Canairi as “a democratic design language that makes it simple for children to understand but also invites the minimalist adult to play along.”

Canairi Fresh Air Monitor Demo

The device wants to let you know if the air is clean for your own good. The device is also eco-friendly because it’s made from recycled plastic. The battery can be charged via a removable rechargeable button and mounts on the wall. Its simple design means that the Canairi can be used without any compatible apps, light, digital displays, sounds, lights, or sound. So if you don’t want the pretty yellow bird to die, make sure there is proper ventilation in the room, and the air is clean. You might be able to get the air purifier that you have been looking for.

Tag Heuer Calibre E4 Golf Edition offers advanced tracking features for the well-heeled golfer

Tag Heuer Calibre E4 Golf Edition offers advanced tracking features for the well-heeled golfer

Back in the 1950s Tag Heuer advertisements highlighted that you could use the tachymeter bezel of the Auto-Graph watch to count golf scores. While watch technology has improved a lot, the passion of the company for golf remains the same.

The Tag Heuer Connected Calibre E4 Golf Edition is a variant of the E4 (which came out this February) that is custom designed for the sport. The watch has an 18 hole bezel and it will uses color-coded bars to denote your performance at each hole.

This is possible since the watch comes pre-loaded with 2D maps for over 40,000 golf courses. It detects your first swing in the tee area and automatically starts tracking your game (in previous generations you had to start that manually).

As you play, your watch will display the distance between the holes and suggest which club to choose. The more you play, the more the watch learns about you, e.g. It can remember which clubs were used and the landing area of your ball, so that it can make adjustments to its recommendations.

The Tag Heuer Connected Calibre E4 Golf Edition has a 45 mm body made out of lightweight titanium with matte black “diamond-like carbon” coating. The dimpled rubber strap is white to add some contrast. The regular E4 has a 42 mm version, but the Golf Edition is available only in 45 mm.

The 1. 39″ OLED display (454 x 454 px) is brighter than previous generations and makes for easier daytime viewing. Besides the touchscreen, there are two buttons on the side along with a digital crown.

Tag Heuer Calibre E4 Golf Edition offers advanced tracking features for the well-heeled golfer

The watch is powered by the Snapdragon Wear 4100+ and promises 30% battery life than its predecessor (which used the 3100). You should get 24 hours of battery life, a full charge takes 90 minutes.

Naturally, the Calibre E4 features a GPS and an accelerometer, which are used to track your position on the course and swings. They can be used by other apps too, Strava, for example, since this is a fully-featured Google Wear OS watch. The watch also features a heart rate sensor.

There is NFC on board, so you can leave your wallet in the locker and use a mobile payment system. The watch is waterproof up to 50m, so you can go swimming with it.

As you can imagine, the price tag for the Tag Heuer Connected Calibre E4 Golf Edition is not for the faint of heart – one can be on your wrist if you have the $2,650/EUR2,500/PS2,200 to pay for it. You might also pick up a steel bracelet for $460 or a red rubber strap for $200.

LG OMNIPOD car concept gives a new whole meaning to living on the road

LG OMNIPOD car concept gives a new whole meaning to living on the road

You don’t need to always wear a VR headset to enjoy the Metaverse, especially if you can just stay in your self-driving car and be at your office even while on your way to your vacation.

CES 2022 was the first time in two years that the annual event returned to face-to-face interactions. Almost ironically, a lot of the showcases there revolved around virtual experiences, particularly the kind that the Metaverse movement is trying to push. Being physically present in one place while also virtually experiencing a different location at the same time is one of the biggest premises of this convergence of technologies, but most of those involve wearing some form of headset, be it VR goggles or more stylish AR glasses. LG has a vision for the future mobility and tries to demonstrate how one can work, relax, or do both while traveling to another location.

Designer: LG

Like so many futuristic cars, LG’s OMNIPOD has screens. The screens extend beyond the dashboard and front panels. They also cover the roof, sides, and ceiling. LG calls it an “expansive tunnel screen” or “Meta-environment screen,” and it’s the part of the car then tries to immerse the rider or riders in a virtual environment or, alternatively, give them a peek of the outside world without opening any windows.

The car isn’t just about displaying videos or virtual offices, though. Every part of the vehicle is designed to make a person feel like they’re in anything but a moving car. There’s a modular mini-fridge, for example, that even includes an induction range on top for cooking on the go. Depending on what you need, the OMNIPOD’s spacious cabin can double as an office or recording studio. The car’s screens can be changed to make it appear as though you are actually working, which may help to increase productivity.

Given the events of the past two years, there are also elements of sanitation in this moving living space. For example, an “Air Shower” blasts passengers with negative ionized water to kill germs and dust, and an LG Styler holds your clothes and shoes until they are ready to be worn again. And after each trip, the car’s virtual assistant Reah will flood the cabin with UV light and get robot vacuums rolling to prepare for its next use.

While some of these technologies might already be available today, all these futuristic conveniences hinge on electric vehicles perfecting their self-driving capabilities. The LG OMNIPOD does have the option of manual driving, but without the typical steering wheel and controls anyway. It’s not going to replace RVs and cabins on wheels, especially with its lack of bathrooms and kitchens, but LG’s vision of future mobility does interesting points and questions, like how humans of the future might find it harder to be physically social when they don’t even have to step out of their cars most of the time.
