Motorola executive teases 125W charger

Motorola executive teases 125W charger

Motorola’s latest flagships are the Edge 30 Pro and Edge 30 Ultra, which come with speedy 68W fast charging. The company is apparently thinking this is not enough and has developed an even faster charger – 125W.

The adapter was unveiled by Chen Jin (General Manager, Lenovo Mobile Phone Business Department, China) on his Weibo account. He also said the brick weighs just 130 grams, which is a lot lower than any other charger with the same speeds on the market.

The race for delivering 125W chargers and above is heating up, and we have at least five makers with an adapter that can reach those or higher speeds. A quick comparison reveals that Xiaomi’s brick is 195 grams, vivo’s adapter is 210 grams, and all the other we have laying around in the office are around the same weight.

The 130g body of Motorola is truly impressive, but should not surprise anyone – the company is capable of building tight charging packages. Its current 68W adapter is under 100 grams.

The bigger question behind this teaser is what phone is this 125W charger designed for. Rumors are the brand is preparing a device code-named Frontier with a 194MP camera, which seems suited to pushing the charging boundaries as well.

Instagram rolls out product-tagging to all users in US

Instagram rolls out product-tagging to all users in US

Starting Tuesday, Instagram users from the US will be able to tag brands’ products on their posts. This feature was previously only accessible to business or creator accounts. The feature will be available to all users “over the next few months”.

In the past few years Instagram has been shifting towards selling products directly from the app. The latest update could make it easier for users to identify products in videos and photos, and stories. The app plans to eventually add Reels into the mix.

Instagram rolls out product-tagging to all users in US

To tag a product, you’ll first need to tag the brand of the item. After creating the post and making necessary adjustments, tag a brand using the “Tag people” option. Then, you should see “tag products”. You can tap on any product you see in your photo and choose a product from that brand’s catalog. Other users will also be able tap on the product to purchase it via a trackable link, or from within the app. Instagram is testing an affiliate program with select creators to potentially earn from sales they convert.

Businesses will be able to see their products are tagged and can choose whether those tags appear on the ‘tagged tab’. Businesses can also choose to disable tags.

The Elec: iPhone 15 Pro to get UD camera with FaceID next year

The Elec: iPhone 15 Pro to get UD camera with FaceID next year

Apple is expected to announce its iPhone 14 Pro series with a new dual punch hole design later this year but the ultimate goal is to move to an under-display (UD) solution and free up even more screen real estate in the future. According to a new report from South Korean outlet TheElec, Samsung Display and OTI Lumionics are developing a new generation of UD camera which will debut first on the Galaxy Z Fold5 next year and will later make its way to Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro (tentative name) models in the fall of 2023.

Samsung Display is reportedly partnering with OTI Lumionics which has developed a new generation of organic cathode patterning material (CPM) which enables “microscopic transparent windows to be opened in the cathode and OLED pixel layers”. This in turn makes the display completely transparent allowing for Apple to fit its FaceID sensors under the display. When unlocking the display, the IR sensor works as usual leaving no cutouts or notch for users.
